Appreciate yr tips for a layman on some ways to chk if a seafood (sold in restaurant/supermarkt) has been harvestd/hunted from sea or cultivatd/farmd in a lake/pond etc.
Many thx.
You should eat pond farmed fish.
You should not eat Northern European farmed salmon.
You should leave wild sea fish to be wild and free.
If you want to eat a wild fish, go catch it yourself. If you can find one.
Freshwater aquaculture is a great source of protein with a minimal carbon footprint. Just dig a pond and put some fish in. Grass carp is an excellent fish to grow as food. It eats green stuff, does not fart methane into the air, and has a big head to satisfy local demand.
Fish such as Salmon and Trout, when farmed, need a fish based food to grow. Stuff such as sandeels or Krill. So industrial fishing ships go out, catch all the sandeel and process it into pellets to feed the farms. Result is... nothing for the sea birds and wild fish to eat.
Be content with your aquicultured carp or Tilapia .Please leave the wild fish alone.
