Q: Seems like the EF drug "scandal" has nation wide implications.
Or this could just be a coincidence....I've been in China long enough to know things happening by coincidence is rare here.
BEIJING - A State Council office overseeing education has ordered a special inspection on after-school training institutions during the summer vacation, the Ministry of Education said Friday.
The office asked local education departments to enhance coordination with departments of market regulation, fire control, civil affairs, human resources and police in conducting the inspection, said a ministry statement on its website.
After-school training institutions will face severe punishment if they are caught violating government rules, the statement said.
Local education departments were also told to thoroughly review and record the programs provided by the institutions about
subjects that are taught in normal schools.
"Those that teach the school curricula in advance will be ordered to correct it, and if they refuse will face punishment up to the withdrawal of certificates," the statement said.
The ministry welcomed the public to report irregularities and malpractice in any institutions.
The government has launched several rounds of inspection on after-school training institutions since 2018, trying to curb extracurricular programs that put children under too much pressure and cause unnecessary competition among students.
Although notable progress has been made, new problems are emerging and some local authorities have left weak spots, the ministry said.

Everything is going to move online as they tighten the rules for foreigners to come to China and teach, Chinese stay in China and foreigners stay outside of China, problem solved.
Though there is another problem for traditional training centers like EF, Web and Wall Street that are totally unprepared for this, they have some online courses but nothing like VIPkid or 51talk, they are going to get absolutely crushed by new emerging tech companies disguised as educational companies.
Smaller chains or independent training centers will lose a lot of businesss as they might only be able to get Chinese English teachers due to new restrictions. They also lack the means and finances to develop an online teaching platform which takes hundreds of thousands if millions of RMB of initial investment in developing the technology (integrated systems like that can't just be copypasted) that they either don't have or are not willing to invest.
The entire industry is about to change because of this scandal. I think that in the near future only schools will be able to bring in foreigners and not training centers that have always been more shady and unregulated. The way around this is online teaching, until China cracks down on it because some teacher showed his dick to children through the webcam or talked about sensitive topics (which has already happened).
The EF fiasco is not only propaganda gold but the perfect excuse to tighten the screws another turn.

this is more about corruption than someone being caught. Many of these private schools, and even some public schools don't have the proper documents to hire foreign teachers. Then when they do; the teachers they hire often don't meet Beijing's requirements. Money is made in wheel barrels by these schools. Going after the foreign teacher isn't the answer. Of course if the guy is into drugs and porn, he should be jailed according to law in China. It is the individuals fault.

According to weibo and wechat news he has never be caught for PE drugs. A national hero is someone who cheats, gets caught, denies it happened and politicises it with a victim card.
