the good students who applied themselves here in china seem to do well when they get to canada, but the deadbeats are still deadbeats.

i am surprised that none of my students have bothered to get a drivers license and none have tried to play any sports in canada, they usually do a year and half in high school and then move on to a college in canada.

the good ones also bring me some tim horton coffee when they come back at christmas for a visit, would prefer dunkin donut coffee but if the canucks can drink bad coffee i guess i can also.

Academically - not sure.

Life-style... I'm getting photos from all over Europe. One of the last ones was from some snow-covered mountain range ... perhaps near the Matterhorn...??? I've seen the inside of the Louvre, Buckingham Palace, Eiffel Tower, Venice, Vienna (IIRC), Athens (Acropolis, etc), as well as all over the UK (though not Nth Ireland).

And I have one student that I had for barely a week, who shows me bits of Wellington, NZ - he's in high school there.

royceH:

You think they take the opportunity to travel for the sake of travel?  Or caught up in some kind of Chinese tour group thing?

Anyway, nice to get some sort of feedback from them.

These guys are solo - or at least, with a bunch of friends they met over there. (for the most part.. some tour group thing like around London... but that's ok!)

They're couped up in an overpriced rental with an unused pool around which they cook up their two minute noodles and speak in Chinese.

No worries for them as their family pays the bills and they're guaranteed to pass.  As long as the family pays the bills.
