Q: Teaching High school student/brats
Hello again
7 years in China and mostly dealt with primary / kindergarten schools / students, tried one or two semesters to teach middle school kids , but an absolute disaster, just not up to their tantrums, smoking, phones in class, never doing homework, muttering under their breath whilst insulting me
my question (but I'm sure I know the answer already) is there any reason to think that High school kids should be any different other than maybe more insecure
have a few good offers to take a high school contract, but I think I should just stay here in primary land

High school kids are more mature (usually) and more worried about their scores on the Gao Kao which include English so they normally pay better attention.
I found the worst during my stint was middle school kids.... (around 13-15)... trying to impress their friends... rebellious little shits.
I taught in 2 different high schools, and a semester in a middle school. I'd teach in a high school before a middle school. However; I must point out that I taught in a private school too. The students were much better behaved in private schools. I spent 5 years teaching in a college. I'd choose a post secondary institution any day. You might want to try that.

Stay away from the public schools, man. I am currently working in one and it's just a gaokao factory run by a pack of geriatric nongs who spent their formative years wielding machetes and little red books, but now think they can advise me on how to be a teacher. They give me retarded MP4s where people talk like they've had some kind of aneurism and then get me to check their multi-choice answers. I told them that if they want me to do that they should just get a Lithuanian truck driver to stand and press the button. Once they got my blue eyes and white skin on their brochure to lure in huge swathes of braindead cashed up peasants, they reduced my classes and sent me to a primary school where I can actually make a difference. Here's my advice. Stick to either primary, or go to an adult training school. Also, here's a new warning, hot off the press. Make sure your employer is directly responsible for processing your documents. I am working for a company which has contracts with local schools. My passport spent six months in someone's desk because the school and the company couldn't decide who was responsible for processing it. With less than a month to go before my visa expires I suddenly have to run around and update everything all by myself.

Dial them-up and ask them for an advice!

Kids these days are smart and have independent thoughts. They don't simply follow but ask questions.
Don't waste time trying to understand them. All they care is to learn. As a teacher, be polite just do the job and teach the concepts well. The ones who really want help will ask.
Kids are no more kids. They are focused and know what they want and how to get there. Just do your job of teaching well and share your email id. The ones who really need help will talk to you or if they are reluctant, they'll email you their problems.
Live your life and enjoy. You're not a teacher 24/7. Be easily approachable and be a fun teacher.
