I personally don't really like Tianjin (boring!) but if you're in Beijing, then you should probably go there once just to tick it off your "things to do" list. I guess one of the highlights of Tianjin is the Western style architecture left behind from colonialism. Many of the streets make for a picturesque stroll. Not too familiar with what areas are best but below is an article that might point you in the right direction.

People in Tianjin brag about their local food like the plated sesame sticks and goubuli baozi. They also have their own version of the jianbing but I personally prefer the one with the crispy thing in the middle (theirs has a soft deep fried dough thing in the center). But you should probably try some street food when there just to compare and decide for yourself.

I spent a few days there and found little of interest. Probably my least favourite place I have visited. As far as the Western style architecture it was just like being in any run of the mill Western suburb so not worth a visit to those areas. I also went to where the transit railway ends and there is an area that they have tried to fix up into a bit of a touristy area near the river, some nice statues, boardwalks jet boat rides and an old passenger ship that is now some sort of resturant. This area like many places in China was now pretty much deserted and slowly decaying. Lots of heavy industry on the outskirts so also very poluted. Not recomended.

Short answer is no not really but it depends on what you like. If your here for a day the TV tower is nice if your lucky enough to have a blue sky day. Shopping is here all the time. The river walk area along the Haihe is nice. If your down south in Nankai the water park is nice. It's not what I consider a water park though. It's just a nice park with a big lake. Stay out of the zoo though if you have any compassion for animals.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
