I think one reason why in europe and america things are better with smoking is because effort from people and government to educate people on smoking. also, people respect ind. rights.
Is there an increasing negative stigma toward smoking in China? Is it more and more concerned bad for younger men to smoke. Or at least smoke in public places with lots people?

There's a stigma against women smoking, and it's thought odd if a man doesn't smoke. Those are cultural, not health-related, norms.
Most men are completely happy to smoke in front of everyone and anyone - it used to piss me off to see them smoking in front of small children, but nobody else seemed to care. To a lesser extent, the expat guys became the same. I'm a non-smoker and I have unpleasant memories of sitting around a table with three or four people puffing away while I choked on copious volumes of their chemicals. I'm pretty sure at home they'd feel somewhat obliged to stop killing me with their fumes but in China the attitude from everyone was: 'if you don't like passive smoking, piss off!'

"and it's thought odd if a man doesn't smoke." Not only is that thinking strange but it is stupid. Smoking is extremely unhealthy! Wake up China!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :(
Regarding Chinese men being happy to smoke around anyone, yes that is called SELFISHNESS,STUPIDITY AND INCONSIDERATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(* F*****G A******S!!!!!!!!!!! :(

If there is, I haven't noticed it. I was waiting to get on the elevator yesterday with 2 Chinese men. They both had cigarettes in their hand. These assholes WAITED until they got into the elevator and THEN they lit their cigarettes. So no, no negative stigma....none, whatsoever.
icnif77:
Did you tell them to get out?
I often complain about smoking in the closed space! Of course to no avail! Trains, taxis, elevators!
I comfort myself with: 'They don't understand me di.ck&heads!'
When I travel with train on 'ying xi', the attendants just passing through cheap compartment, so everybody smoke in it. I hate it, and I always complain (bark)!
icnif77:
i don't like to 'swallow it', so I 'bark' for my rights, if necessary.
My 'raison d'etre' is '(bad)action, bad reaction'.
I found it very harmonious, if I respect your rights (wishes), and you respect mine.
LAR:
Yes guys, TYPICAL SELFISH,INCONSIDERATE ASSHOLES INDEED!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( OMG..I hate taking the train here with all the cigarette smoke!!!!!!!!!!!! :( Absolutely pitiful!!!!!!!! :( South Korean males ARE THE SAME..SELFISH PRICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
LAR:
F*** "the harmonious of me"! Smoking around people is UNACCEPTABLE! :(
Not in the city where I live. Here, people smoke like burning barns!
I would say "sort of" in the sense that many women will ask if I smoke, and now that I dont they express a very obvious relief. I have also noticed young girls are asking more and more often if the boy they like smokes or not. And even those with boyfriends are now pushing them more and more to stop smoking, which is oftentimes causing problems with their relationship.
I smoked from age 16 to 42, (cigars). After moving to Beijing I quit because of the air quality and the area where I live in has few cigars, most of which are dreadfully overpriced. The shops with moderately priced goods are more than an hour away from where I live, so all of that has made me a non-smoker.
Even back in the West, as I was the only one in my circle who smoked, I would respect my family and friends who did not smoke. No smoking in front of children, no smoking indoors except my own home, NEVER at the dinner table, etc. Just a question of common courtesy.
Back to your question, I would say that among women there is a gradually increasing stigma against smokers. It is small at the moment, but it will grow.

If the Chinese males have a problem with their girls speaking to them about their smoking, F*** THEM! * Stay strong Chinese girls..the more pressure that you apply..the quicker the change will be!!!!!!!!!!! :)
The only rule I rigidly enforce in our apartment is NO SMOKING, I intended to enforce that even on the balcony but my wife persuaded me to relent and allow smoking on the balcony.
The family are used to it now and any guests are quickly appraised of my hatred of smoking upon their arrival. What I find surprising is that I haven't had anyone complain and quite a few people commenting positively.
Elevators, I WILL complain, my first Chinese sentence learned was (Qing Wu Xi Yan), not that it did much good, but putting my foot in the elevator door and pointing to the cigarette usually gets the idea across. Also smoking in restaurants when we have our daughter with us will get a similar reaction. Yes I am an anti-smoking bigot, I DETEST the habit, but no I haven't really detected any serious move towards my position.
LAR:
Good for you Hugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) More people need to do that!!!!!!!!!!!
Its a criteria that matters to some girls who are seeking a mate.
LAR:
That's good! I hope that it matters to MANY Chinese girls!!!!!!!!!!!
LAR:
* How about in Shanghai? * Do Chinese gals speak up about the stupid smoking there?
-I feel China has so much cancer, bad air, and god knows what in the food, that people smoking around me doesn't really bother me. I'm an asthmatic, and too much 2nd hand smoke (like a bar) or even a single cig gives me chest pain the next day.
-As for change, I see people smoking under no smoking signs. That said the D trains seem to have less smoking.
LAR:
"I see people smoking under no smoking signs." Yeah, it's the same in South Korea..INCONSIDERATE ASSHOLES. :(
Hi quellest,
"Is...................in China?" I SURE HOPE SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, it takes education. * This is critical..especially with the young people!

Can I see you ID old man, why!!!, Am i too old to live, NO SIR, but you need to be 100 years old to buy cigarettes, What about all the tourist that bring them in on the planes. They sell them on the blackmarket to pay for their vacations here in Hawaii.
GREAT IDEA

well, I'm not a smoker, but I say let people smoke if they want to. I also like the idea of not doing it in most public places, but outside or n a bar, if u want to, knock yourself out.
I do sometimes consider smoking a pipe,, I think it looks cool once one has reached a 'mature' age,,,, haha,,, but I bet it would make me gag,,, haha.
One thing I don't like is this new 'vape' thing,,, now that seems odd to me! Cigarette for a Robot maybe!

Can smoking cannabis really improve your sperm count?
The unexpected finding that men with a history of cannabis smoking had higher sperm counts has been widely reported after it was published in a leading fertility journal.
Harward University researchers tested sperm of 600 men who were currently enrolled at fertility clinics and asked them about their previous drug taking, for the study published in the journal Human Reproduction.
Around half of men had tried, or currently used, cannabis and the researchers found just 5 per cent had clinically low sperm counts, compared to 12 per cent of those who had never tried it.
How could it do this?
