Q: Tier-3 China internet ...

can really deliver sometimes. haha,,, look @ my download speed today,,, not bad, eh? Uh oh, I better figure out how to make this a current, relevant question about China or I will be given a nasty rebuke by the Forum Freedom Fighter! Ok, kinda serious question from a guy who doesn't know a whole lot about tech. Is that a decent dl speed for China WiFi? And what do you think if notebook computer is running hot? 2013 MacBook Air. *maybe I'm supposed to be chatting on computer forum, but I'll take my chances with a serious rebuke!

I am not sure which Wi-fi Speedometer you are using, but ... I am using one of yours ..surprise, if I remember correct.

http://www.speedtest.net

It displays graph with the numbers and my Wi-fi numbers for comparison are:

PING: 27 ms - DOWNLOAD: 8.69 Mbps - UPLOAD: 2.15 Mbps

I don't have similar troubles as you, i.e. Vladistan's Wi-fi works faster than any Internet connection I had in China.

I guess, Chinese-Internet-Wall contributes to that and here, we don't have block on almost anything.

MacBook heat:

I have few web links on the subject, so have a read:

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT203184

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2543782

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201640

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3132207

https://www.askdavetaylor.com/why_is_apple_macbook_pro_suddenly_running_...

https://www.macworld.co.uk/feature/mac/fix-overheating-macbook-3592266/

My current MacBook Pro 2012 has problem with charging or it's (irreplaceable) battery itself ... suddenly, while I am not connected to the power outlet, battery charge drops to very low, red numbers and puter shuts down.

After I reconnect puter to the electricity outlet, battery charge shows 75% full ... It must be some cheap part installed into Mac in Foxcon-you-con-Shenzhen ... he he.

While, I heavily d/l over the FrostWire, Mac gets warmer, but nothing alarming.

As I got this one, I remember I couldn't use it dressed in shorts .... 'cause bottom of the puter was too hot ... buTT .., as you know, I travel around the world with my own goose feather pillow, so 'shorts&pillow with lap-top-ping'.

weird the #'s are the same. maybe I didn't do it right..

icnif77:

That was my result at Internet's link I posted above. I edit weblink now, and you can try again. Link as I posted first just displayed my numbers with word 'result' in link ...

You should click 'GO'! and get into new (your Internet) scan.

Your numbers won't be that high. If I remember correct, my no's. from Guizhou were Ping: 9 or below; /DL: 1.3/UPL: 1.5 or similar. Never higher that that!

Try this link:

I have 2 old laptops running hot here, eventually the dirty air and pollution clogs the factory fan built into the system.

The problem is you don't know if the Chinese service tech will lie and tell you that you have to buy another one and not change the fan, steal your parts and give you shitty parts and fix the fan, or load chinese junk on your computer. Since I can't trust anybody here, they sit on a shelf and I buy a new laptop. It really sucks. You can buy a heavy duty fan to place underneath and use like a desktop but it's not portable anymore and the electricity usage doubles. The next trip to Philippines, I will take them with me and donate them to a private Catholic school so somebody can get some use out of them or an orphanage. It would be nice to do that here but some crook would sell it rather than giving it to a needy kid and fixing it. It's the shitty world we live in. Yes a conservative that wants to fix rather than throw away, environmentally friendly, don't tell anybody, I have an asshole reputation that I would like to keep.

icnif77:

I am always afraid they'll replace good/new parts in computer with older ones. But, if your puter fail in Himalayas, what's your other choice, but to trust local repair.

I really trust only US Apple service.

The slow (2.7 mb/s) download speed might be the result of seeders throttling their upload speeds (look at your own upload speed). That said, my internet connection varies a lot based on the time of day and the day of the week. I suspect my building has limited bandwidth and when everyone is home on weekends streaming movies my connection slows way down. If I have a large download, I generally run it overnight or early in the morning.

Cool idea about donating to a church, I hadn't thought of that.  The big reason I haven't bought a newer laptop, is because I didn't know what to do with this one.  So, good idea.

Yeah, my upload speed was basically nonexistent  (2.9kb/s) and everything else is slow too.  For example a good site with strong, reliable servers, yahoo, won't even load.  Well, it loads the text, but no images.  But other sites one expects to load all rapidly do.  Taobao; Tmall; cn.bing are up and running in a split-second.  I don't stream, so I can't comment on that.  I figure like u said there is limited bandwidth available to apartment block.  oh well....

Lately hasn't been running hot, not even running fans it seems.  I'm cool with that.

icnif77:

Same Internet strength description as mine last year in Guizhou. Site just wouldn't load .... Check-out with School (if they provide an Internet to your house) on option of buying larger wi-fi package ...

I told them I will pay the difference, buTT .... boss said we can upgrade only after few years in service.

It was like 'prison sentence' ...

just now....

icnif77:

Here you have it:

https://support.speedtest.net/hc/en-us/articles/203845290-What-is-ping-download-speed-and-upload-speed-

- The 'ping' is the reaction time of your connection–how fast you get a response after you've sent out a request. A fast ping means a more responsive connection, especially in applications where timing is everything (like video games). Ping is measured in milliseconds (ms).

- The 'download speed' is how fast you can pull data from the server to you. Most connections are designed to download much faster than they upload, since the majority of online activity, like loading web pages or streaming videos, consists of downloads. Download speed is measured in megabits per second (Mbps).

- The 'upload speed' is how fast you send data from you to others. Uploading is necessary for sending big files via email, or in using video-chat to talk to someone else online (since you have to send your video feed to them). Upload speed is measured in megabits per second (Mbps).

To be honest, tech is shit.

The week before CNY, the company forced me to retire my quad core dell laptop. It was 5 years old.

They forced an 8 core workstation upon me, with a 500 Gb SSD, and Windows 10. The SSD packed in today. Total failure. All is lost.

Whoever approved win 10 for release should be sacked.

Never mind connection speed, you are fucking lucky if you can even get win 10 to connect to the internet..

And let’s not even get started on being able to buy windows in ChIna.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
