Q: Tips of learning Chinese?

Chinese isn't an easy language to learn. Good tips on how to learn Chinese efficiently and good language programs? Language partner vs language program, private training center vs public institution. Does living with a Chinese family or roommate help much?

So I have been "harmonized" here... is it because I raised suspicion about that question?

So I'll give a CHINA related answer. to learn CHINESE, you need a balance of theory and practice. speak to CHINESE people, but don't forget to read your CHINESE language manual, to improve your comprehension of CHINESE.

Programs to learn CHINESE are just for people that don't have friend in CHINA that are willing to help practice. in CHINA, people speak CHINESE, so it isn't complicated to find those CHINESE people.

CHINA is a beautiful place, I love the Party and how it governs the CHINESE people here. Really, they are doing an AMAZING job. I love this place too, because it is CHINA-related. Even if a CHINESE koala is asking a totally suspicious question, because he is obviously from CHINA. But despite being totally suspicious, he is CHINESE so of course I love him, because I love CHINA and its 14 000 years of history that ultimately lead to the creation of the amazing world we live in now.

Talk as much as possible.
Languages r tools, people use them for communication.
Live or hang out with the one who cannot speak ur language and who's English is poorer than ur Chinese, it will help a lot.

hi,i was teaching HSK for exchange students when i was in my university. i suggest you to listen more and talk more, remember clearly the single phrase meaning and pay attention to connecting S,V,O,etc... best way is to chat with the local ppl who cannot speak english. like me, i like sitting next to the old cantonese anti , and listen to them to talk... then my cantonese is much more better than before. Get your tones down ASAP. People often wanna jump right into talking without understanding how important the tones are. Master those and apply them all the time.

Well, talking to locals is the best way to learn... listen, look, repeat...
sounds simple! and it is, unless they all speak dialect and then you´re f*****!!!
I tried to learn Mandarin, but most people i dealt and deal with speak dialects. In the same city sometimes you have several.
Now, they were telling me to learn dialect... before i would have to learn Mandarin and WuxiHua...
now would have to learn several Jinhua dialects... big mess, and really not helpful if you really want to learn.
My advice... choose well your language partners... don´t let them speak dialect.

Because of the difficulties of the Chinese language, you have to make a choice according to what you want to do with Chinese language :
a) do you want to communicate with people on a daily basis
=> then just learn how to speak, and leave aside the learning of characters
b) do you want to work with Chinese (contract, business)
=> then focused on business Chinese and reading Chinese business documents

People tend to generalize about Chinese language and make it like another language to learn, which is not.
Even if you do know the 4'000 characters you need to be able to read a newspaper, you won't be able to read it, as Chinese words are often polysyllabic. For instance, you may know these two characters separately "上" (up) and "海" (sea), but if you don't know that together "上海" is Shanghai, you won't understand it.

If you want to learn Chinese, learn with Chinese people who have to use Chinese in a formal way in their daily life.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
