Q: Is walking while using a smart phone worse in your home country?

Chinese are known for walking while being completely absorbed in their smartphones.  Sometimes they trip over things, fall into holes, or collide into other pedestrians.  Worse things have happened.  Such unaware mobile phone users are called the "heads-down tribe" (dī tóu bù luò).  In the West they are known as "phone zombies".

A special cell phone walking lane was first created in Chongqing in 2014, and now these lanes are found in other major Chinese cities.  Does your city have cell phone lanes?

Are the phone zombies worse in your home country or in China?

I saw an article recently about some city setting up sidewalk walking areas for constant phone users, I thought is was a joke but maybe not.

Don't know. (haha,,, yeah, I'm sure there is going to be big respect for those lanes. best joke I've heard in a loooooong time. I mean you have noticed the lorry driving down the sidewalk haven't you?)  Don't know.

In about 10 years the things are going to be implanted in your brain and you will have like a VR projection.  Of course there will be many 'Usage Modes', but one will be 'Public' or even 'Ambulatory', and supposedly the VR will let you keep your outside focus while still riding the WeChat.

I'm guilty of Zombie'ing too.  haha,,, gonna be a story to tell when I get smoked by some crazoid racing his e-bike down the sidewalk.   Just today I seen a scooter hit a bicyclist.  It's a fun game the chinoids play.  Hey, let's see who can go out in the city and avoid getting hit.

It is worse here in China but I think that is just because I come from South Africa where everybody knows that if you use your cellphone in public then you are making yourself a target. People are murdered in South Africa for a cellphone. I'm actaully glad I live in China where it is safer.

I saw a lot of people concentrate on their phone while I was taking subway in New York. Haha

I am a phone zombie myself, bad habit. I think I should try to shift my attention by attending more social activities

The real test is seeing if people can walk and chew gum at the same time. ..commonly known as "the wriggles test "
