Q: Washing machine broke down - landlord wants to replace it with crappy second-hand?

So my washing machine broke down on its third use and flooded my apartment. My landlord was 'conciliatory' and said she would replace it. Two weeks later, guys come in with a crappy second hand, which stops working THE NEXT DAY. Again I call them and again they come with another second-hand machine. It works for now, but not without making an ominous, ball-withering thunder.

Is it in my right to ask for a new machine? This is ridiculous...

Just another way that they try to save money and give you crap. You see, you are not expected to complain. When you d,o they think that they replaced the machine, what else do you want? They think you should settle and be quiet. Go ahead and ask for a new one. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I would ask for a new one.  He could say sod off but at least ask man.  Just find an excuse as to why its no good, like the noise.  Just say you like to do you washing when you're at home so the clothes are not sat in there all day, and the noise is driving you crazy.

I dont know how much you pay for your apartment but if its not cheap I would be on the phone to him straight away.
