Anything with a lot of stunts and expolisions, they like Rambo movies and Bond movies, Space Alien movies etc. I watch movies with Chinese people and they like to think the movies are good as well. They know what a stupid, it sucks movie is!

I read somewhere that Avatar was so popular the government took it out of lots of cinemas and replaced it with some locally made film.

rich45:

yup, they pulled all the 3D prints to make room for the Confucius movie. but Avatar still made more money with only 2D prints. they learned their lesson thou, this year they delayed transformers 3 and harry potter a whole two moths to make sure the founding of the communist party was a hit. i remember reading an article about it. how many places got tickets in bulk and gave the day off tho their workers to go see it. but most dint bother so the cinema was sold out. but empty

Garfield 2 and Transformers 2 were the two top grossers last time I checked, though that was a while ago. Of course, not much foreign makes it to the theatres. I suspect more American movies are watched on DVD and youku.

In general, it seems teen comedies, action movies and dramas do the best, which makes sense as those genres tend to be broad enough that cultural differences don't get in the way. Just like Kung fu, later-day Stephen Chow and weepy, heavily-visual art films tend to cross over more the other way.

I thought Titanic was super popular all over Asia? I know it's old, but a lot of people seem to know that one.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
