Q: What are the rules for extra or part time work?

I will be on a Z visa....  In Korea, it was mainly recruiters who got you into trouble.  If I work on my own doing privates and a part time job at a training center....  what are the chances the PSB will be hiding the behind the door?

(sigh)

Why do i get the idea from all the similar 'anonymous' posts on illegal work recently that someone is trying to catch posters out?

My answer:

you take on illegal work at your own risk.

You have to evaluate the risk for yourself: you might be caught by the PSB, but then again you might not.

I asked, what are the rules? For example, as many pt jobs are advertised by companies, who is permitted to take them? Which visa holders? It is my understanding that individual privates or 1-to-1 dont get busted so much but recruiters do.

sorrel:

part time jobs are illegal

your work visa / residents permit is tied to your employer.

If you are caught working part-time for any other place other than your legal employer at best you could be fined, at worst you could be deported and banned from re-entering China for a number of years. If the work doesn't offer a 'Z' visa it is illegal.

OP, you know the rules. You might get permission from your main employer for extra work, but probably not. No one can calculate the odds.

Like sorrel said, it's on you.

I'll answer this question with the real answer. Okay today you shouldn't work at training centers because the training center needs to pay the piper occasionally and they need someone to pay with occasionally, sometimes that could be you. The best way to work part-time is by teaching kids at their house or adults at a restaurant or Starbucks location.  If you're smart enough and patience to know how then you can also teach online at home and you're perfectly safe in your own house using your own Internet that you pay for to do whatever you want on it and it's not illegal to teach online, if you want to be 100% safe while teaching online have the money wired to your account in Your country there are many companies that hire online teachers, look on Dave ESL café. Remember that in the management office of the training center there is somebody watching and there is a time to pay the PSB and they will use you to pay with because you will pay the fine and you will be released to one day pay again. So my point is in today's world of China you cannot trust anyone at the training center and you cannot trust recruiters. You can only trust parents and teaching online safely at home. There are a lot of Arrogant teachers and foreigners out there that say hey I never get caught you can do it too. Never listen to those kinds of people their arrogance will blind them and someday they will get caught. Remember no one is a king in China but many foreigners think they are and these are usually the type of people that will get caught first with blacklisted passports as a reward.

some training schools give the kids of the psb free english lessons, make sure this is the case before you work there. obviously this is a quid quo pro, but its makes the ft life much less stressful.

this question has been answered many times if you search this site, im sure the posters are no longer working in china and safely back in their home country either voluntarily or forcefully back at home, if you catch my drift.

icnif77:

I do catch your 'quote'.

However, I read your reply on Imm. thread, and I see you know much more than I do about it.

It was just my observation and desperation of that 25Y talk, and no action, and on the top of everything, they're still coming into USA.

I still think, there is a solution to the problem, similar to Chinese building cities out of nowhere, with hospitals and other stuff necessary for people moved there from farms.

Same they could do in US with immigrants, once they get handle on it.

It has been asked many times, but it's good to ask again and get the feel of what its like to do PT these days,3 years ago I would have said: Yeah go teach at that training center next to the PSB, no problem, but today 2014, I'm saying stay clear and far away from PT training center jobs. Times have changed, so its good to renew and review this topic.
