I feel like I hear it a lot too from Chinese people. Makes me wonder if its been used to represent some sentiment that doesn't translate well into English since "I miss you" isn't really all that common a thing to say under normal circumstances.

Easy to learn English phrase. Prety common anywhere if you havn't seen someone for a while.

i get it a lot from former students, i dont get it i'm an awful teacher and a worse human being, i understand my close friends. there are very few if any "real people" in that city that is fun to hang out with and talk to. and it's not just "i miss you" a teenager once told me he loved me after a 4 week summer session, i wanted to run out of the class

Actually there is a sad story to my avatar photo seriously (i joke a lot but now i am serious) it cant be seen clearly but it is a dog lieing down in front of a casket of a dead marine (the dogs best friend). the marine died in either afghanastan or iraq i forget. but the dog walked slowly up to the casket laid down made a sad moan. it stayed there for the entire service. i hate animals but in my life i must admit dogs are the greatest and people are not worthy of the loyalty they show us, dogs will give their life to save their owner. (they make the decision it is not a dumb animal thing)

umm, im a very weird person while talking about animals, i hate cats(not the cats here) , i think they are sooo scary , i run away whenever i see a cat very far away! i'm afraid of touching any animal with fur!
but i do like dogs , they r real , straight, faithful n only room for one,i wanna have a dog (although i dont dare to touch them either) ,better than many human jerks!

there is no need to say sorry for your joke, nothing wrong. i just wanted to explain it because it cant be seen clearly. sophiemars is a good name but the photo needs to be of a beautiful woman. i personally prefer plain beauty over the model, actress type.

Why would anone hate a dog or cat ? They just animals similar to us. In many ways better than most people I meet. At least they are honest, can be loyal.

they are filthy they dont clean up after themselves they require too much attention. same reasons why i hate people also.

but i respect the hell out of dogs though. when i was in hohhot there where a pack of small dogs that roamed the campus one or a few would sleep outside our building. one morning i hear an constant barking. i looked out the window and saw this huge wolf looking dog roaming around. and one of the little dogs was barking his little heart out to sound the alarm even when the big dog finally took exception to the barking. luckily for the little dog the shop owner got outside just in time to scare the big dog off

only time i gave one of those filthy strays a treat

or i should say i just hate seeing them or touching them,becoz i think they r sooo scary, will they just come up n eat or bite me ...... but i dont wanna hurt them at all,i feel sad when i know ppl hurting cats! i wont hurt any animal purposely.

It's an affectionate greetings, there is no specific 'deal' with it. It just means that he/she had not seen you in a while and actually was looking forward to meet you again, not always means that he/she is into you.
