Getting my first Z visa soon and have to go have the medical check. What should I expect? Really not in the mood to be probed.
10 years 21 weeks ago in Visa & Legalities - China
It's been a few years since I did mine. Assuming it hasn't changed since then...
Blood test
Urine test
ECG test (electro cardiogram)
Chest X-ray
They might've done a vision check...can't remember.
No anal probes or gonad fondling.
Scandinavian:
Vision test was in the one I did (for spousal visa, but the test facility doesn't care why you're there) also I have an ultrasound done, I wasn't pregnant.
cooter:
Yep, totally forgot about the ultrasound. Maybe they were checking for kidney or gall stones.
The ultrasound is so the Chinese can shout at you that you have a fatty liver. It gives them a thrill. But seriously I have done it twice both very professionally in different hospitals. They have a setup of stations - You need to go through 7-10 stations including the ultrasound, blood pressure, blood tests, weight, height, eye test, hearing test, X-rays and that's it. You pay and go home. Then in about a week you receive your results.
royceH:
Done professionally??? You're kidding!
Maybe it would pass as being professional if the clients were dogs. Although even dogs are individuals...perhaps sheep then...
You do not need to get the medical exam to get your Z visa. The medical exam is not needed until after you have to come to China with the Z visa. You never, never, never, never need to do any medical exam to qualify and get any types of visa. If any school or company is telling you guys you must come to China first to get the medical exam to get a Z Z visa they are lying to you and you shouldnt do it. If you like me were already decieved into coming here then you have nothing to loose by getting the medical exam done here. The medical exam is only needed if you wish to get a work or resident permit , not as a qualification to get a Z visa. I have read the visa laws I know what I am talking about. Dont take their bait!
icnif77:
I had to do medical in HK (2011), before 'I had all necessary docs for Z complete'! There is Medical Exam form on the HK Embassy's website.
One of the required documents for Z application in HK is Medical Exam form, filled and stamped by examining MD.
ironman510:
BTW, it wasn't the school who asked me for the first medical check, it was the Chinese Consulate.
doubleaa:
The Chinese Consulate in America has never asked me for a medical exam. Under the law that I have read no medical exams are needed for any kind of visa with durations of stay less than 180 days per entry. Therefore, if the HK, American, UK or other Chinese Consulates outside of China are requiring this I would tell them about this law from the General Consulate and ask them why would they would require you to do this before you enter into China? I have read about the HK rules and it seems they are not consistent. I have read stories from other foreingers who have went to HK to get the Z visa and in some cases they was able to convince the HK Consulate to issue them the Z and allow them to get the medical exam inside China./ I would ask them why would they require you guys to get a medical exam outside of china, when in most cases they will just have to get another one to get the work and resident permit? I have read many cases recently 2013, where other Foreingerrs who were applying for their first Z visa, or who have been away from China for a long time, again tried to reapply to work in China. Many of them like myself agree that in general the applicants who are not yet in China can get the Z visa first and then the medical exam is not needed until they are already in China. The medical exam is not needed for short term visa, its needed for visa with duration of stays longer than 6 months single entry, or its needed for the work permit or resident permits. If the other conulates are telling you guys differently then why not challenge them about what the general consulates in beijing laws states, or ask them, well if I get the medical check done in HK or another country outside China can you guarantee that additional one will not be needed at a later stage while in mainland china, if they cant gaurantee, then save your time and money and tell them you will get it done ni mainland and they still should not use that against you to refuse you a short term Z visa.
When I did it it consisted of a blood test, chest x-ray, blood pressure reading and eye test. I never had to give a urine sample.
Just had to do mine for the first time about 6 weeks ago. From everything I had read and information from my HR department who are employing me, the Health check is required to get the employment permit which is turn is required for the Z visa.
Same as the guys mentioned above, I had to have: Blood tests, height & weight, eye-test, ECG, X-ray and urine test. Sounds like a lot but they get you in and out of each stage extremely quickly. To be honest its not thorough, but another hoop to jump through to get the visa!!!
How about pregnancy? Is it ok to get a visa if it appeared that you are pregnant?
Chinese Embassy in HK website:

It used to be 'Medical Form file' on the website (2012). No more!

Yes, station after station to be submitted to a bunch of diagnostic/objective type things...bloods, scans, xrays, piddling...all in front of a cast of thousands. Everything handled by technicians, some of whom appear to have had some training, with not a doctor to be seen.
Professional, it is not...think sheep being herded into a chute. Effective for what is intended, it is.
If you're lucky they might have a designated testing centre near where you live. In my case it was 350k away and necessitated a night in a dive washed down with a hundred local brews. All at room temperature...damn that...when will they ever realise that for the fridge to work it must be connected to power??
I'd like to propose giving locals some kind of brain test...I'm thinking those aptitude tests that require some logical thinking skills.
AIDS
icnif77:
I agree, AIDS is the most important matter! And maybe some more tests for other?? diseases. Urine sample, they just splash away, me thinks.
voltasingh:
They also ask me to go for x-ray of my lungs as well as ECG of my heart...
icnif77:
Many things, you aren't require to complete. Hospital just make tests, because they can charge you more monnies.
I completed ME in HK Hospital in 2012. I told examining doc., I need ME for Z visa. They offered me 3 or 4 plans. I chose the cheapest one, and I still did too many exams.
Later, HK Embassy gave me list of required exams, and I saw the difference. I had to return to Hospital with form for examining MD to fill the form, stamp and sign it. However, they moved ME file of the website, so I'm not sure how that works now.
