You might receive an offer for work in China as a non-native English passport holder, but it will be sponsored with some shady (F) visa and once proper authorities find out about your illegal habitation and work in the city, it will be all (fault) on you ..., i.e. do not accept such an offer!
Legal work for foreigners in China is possible only with Z visa.
