Q: What's the best Chinese beer?

I see I'm going to miss the beer festival in Beijing by a week, too bad I never lost a drinking contest in real life.
However what is a good beer in China, do they have a Corona copy? I like Labatts Blue, but has to be Ontario beer also.
I'm Canadian, will I be allowed to freely walk around with beer in my hand like I do at home? You know this is our culture, eh? It all started when we got our independance from Britain. The Yanks had to fight, all it took for us was to get drunk and go downtown and yell at the Brits. They got scared, ran away and just gave up.Today we care on that tradition, by getting drunk and going downtown. But the beer has to be right... so whats a good one

Yes. ZThey both have those names in English on the bottles. There are a least 6 different styles of Snow beer that I have tried and all are OK. Vary between about 3Y and 6Y each at the supermarket or small store.

For Chinese beers, Tsingtao - but you need the premium higher strength stuff, not the watery, tasteless 3% alcohol stuff. It is also better in Tsingtao area, the water is supposed to be better and I think it tastes fresher.

Harbin was my personal fave (a bit more taste), but harder to find.

Occasionally you can find a Chinese dark beer (I think there is a decent one from Xinjiang), which adds a bit more flavour.

Avoid things like Snow (even though it is the best selling beer brand in the world)...

MissA:

The Xinjiang beers generally are pretty decent, Wusu red/yellow in particular is definitely a cut above the other Chinese beers I've tried. I think the dark beer you're thinking of is just called Xinjiang Black.

A: Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever
A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
