Q: What's a good hotel to stay at near the airport in Guangzhou?

I over nighted in Gz when I came here, booked a hotel on agoda, but the shuttle bus took me to the sister hotel, what a dive, the doors to empty rooms weren't even closed. They wouldn't take me to my original hotel as they said it was full. I didn't find any entertainment and never slept in my room, just did beer runs across the street. Any hotel suggestions? Not a total dive.

It depends on your budget.  Normally, if I need to stay someplace on the cheap, I stay at a "Hotel 7".  The rooms are big, clean, kind of sparse, but cheap.  There won't be any entertainment hanging around, but if you ask the guy behind the counter, some can be delivered.  (At least that is what I was told.)

I'd say the Hilton Guangzhou Baiyun.   Brand new hotel, but it's a little ways away from the airport.  First time I've stayed in such a nice hotel.  In New York City or Hong Kong, a hotel room like that would cost $550USD a night.  Somehow I got a steal at around $150USD a night with a very nice all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet.  Booked from Orbitz.com.. Maybe you can get a great deal to stay there also.

bit late tho, I took a late flight and stayed at the airport for a few hours, found a nice woman to chat with, caught my flight which was hours late leaving, they held my flight from Beijing to Canada and rushed me through security,, funny thats the 4th flight I've had this trip that was late while travelling in China. I missed one flight, but they got me on another quickly.

A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
