Q: what's the penalty for protesting in china?
i saw some people protesting earlier very simple they were blocking the street and tied up traffic really bad, they looked like simple workers but i dont know what they were upset about

Black jails, normal jails, deportation, getting beaten by thugs to name a few....
You get a free ride to a mysterious (possibly exotic) location and your own personal gag and black bag.
Well if you are protesting about safety in your workplace the protest is sanctioned because your punishment is to be allowed to continue working there!
If you are protesting about pollution and you are standing on a busy intersection, again the protest is accepted - your punishment is your continued protest while breathing in traffic fumes!
Normally if you are a foreiner you will get deported eventually.
