Q: What's the posting policy on this site? And...
what does one have to do to get a warning, or banned?
Given some of the vents, rants and straight out insults I've seen on here, I'm truly curious!
Maybe you should request "rules" if any from the site Admin (The Cat), or as it was already suggested, try harder.
As in almost every place today on Internet, some join with the sincere desire to either help or find answers. Others get their kicks by trading barbs at eachother. They just seek and enjoy a brawl, if you refrain from answering then you will deny them the pleasure of upsetting you.
But yes, sometimes some persons posting do get away with murder....
The general rule is: you say something offensive, you get a mail warning from me. You go way over the top and you get a temporary ban. Following that, recidivism leads to perma-ban.
Nothing, however, is really set in stone. Cases vary. Some people have bad China days and go over the top. They'll get a warning and their post deleted. No big deal. Others, however, seem to have a natural proclivity for abusive, racist, moronic comments, and seem immune to punishment or reasonable advice. Those are the ones I have little empathy for. One of them is particularly at risk at the moment.
The best thing you can do is report a message if you think it's inappropriate. A few people have done so reliably over the past few weeks and it's made my life easier. Others have reported things which didn't warrant my attention, and so ended up wasting my time. Use your better judgement.

well, that's sort of what I was thinking - except for those who just rant and vent, and make personal attacks on people constantly - with little (or no) provocation. While I personally don't have an issue with non-native English and the mistakes it leads to,l there are some who are just nasty for no apparent reason. For that matter, 'reason' is one thing that is constantly missing. If it takes more 'abuse reports' to get those people off here, then I'll try to be more diligent in the future - cos I"m sick and tired of (currently) one in particular. :) Thanks for the response AdminCat :)

Firstofall, not mean to bring your site any troubles. I think a sane and well-educated person if he had read my post from the start till the so called “trouble” caused by me who wouldn’t think the trouble is ignited by me at first. I was just followed by insane persons like Nevermind, this OP, huapanda.
I have been banned by you once. I didn’t say anything.
And when you still keep those obvious “racist” posts open in your site, I didn’t complain again and again.
Racist posts such as “that Chinese joke” , you had deleted all my jokes (which was request by another insane guy XXXX he wanted a laugh) about white/black ppl, I still didn’t say anything.
The dude’s racist post was followed by “the WHITE ppl jokes”(you deleted).
Today another xxxx post about “DUMP PLACE” is still lively on your site.
I’m wondering now what are these vicious, unstable and insane ppl like OP they want in your site? I know many foreign guys like to(cant help to)think any Chinese who is against them are from China government (wu mao)..This is a laughable to death thing for me everytime it happened. I’m just a normal sane ordinary “people” who like to point out human’s weekness on some “very special ppl”.
I do support you have a rule to administrate what should on this site, what should not. Your site is for private business, not for government purpose. China does have law about “internet administration” which means you are here you gotta to follow it, not let insane ppl to cause your site in trouble. This is the best for you.
Off topic, to anyone who want to discuss Chinese government you should choose a site back home, this is internet you can stay where you wanna stay. And To my surprise, an ordinary ppl when his country now got many ppl jobless, when his country got many ppl almost beg on the street, they still big mouth talk like a fucking hell politican in other country land. Why can’t they be “PEOPLE”?...my guess to this is they are many secretly doing his government job here in China. However they don’t know we Chinese already got a headache government, we don’t’ need more parties to make more headaches at all. This is my warning to “normal people” here…

Apparently, I'm a "vicious, unstable and insane' person... which means, either you need to go back to a dictionary and look those words up, or you really have to provide some very good examples of those times where I have been 'vicious, unstable and insane'. For the record, I happen to be a person whom people have commented on as being quite stable and sane (so that it brings them back to reality - although I'm also quite idealistic...), and usually quite calm and peaceful (with an evil mind, sometimes). This will, naturally after this thread, be the last reply you will get from me (presuming your other posts are of a similar nature as to those before...). I will just hit a different button instead of "add comment" :)

Ok, I think I understand Localla now (I'm sorry, but I honestly don't under your english very well and that could very well be the source of why you have problems with others here) and how this site works and how it can bring about about negative frustration for some.
For example the jokes and "dump" expressions are definitely meant for an audience thats not overly sensitive or understands exaggerated adjectives to get a point across (i.e. someone that understands a joke is just a joke) .
I believe this site has proved very helpful for me (even with the some poorly written articles). I think because its an english site perhaps some people don't get the light/dark humor. Small skirmishes become loaded personal attacks and out of control for sure.
I was wondering myself what too far is on here as well. I can appreciate Admin understanding a bad China day. Can english learners understand what having bad China day?

While I completely get where you're coming from, and with some, there is no doubt some truth to the matter, for others who come here, it's not about language misunderstandings. In Localla's situation, it's not. It's about personal attacks. As Crim said in the comment just above, objective truth is turned to a personal attack and insult. I do agree with what Localla did say above (OMFG - shoot me now!!!), that there are some posts and threads that do cross a line (I noticed one deleted recently that I responded to... damn!), and on some occasions, are allowed to continue. But those posts aren't towards an individual on here - but about the country in general. Are they ok? Well, that's what the 'report abuse' button is for.
I must say that while some things may cross the line (ahem...I may have stired the crap pot a little...mabye), I disagree stongly that complaining about things that we think are wrong here are in anyway racist or inapproipriate.
Crimo has a point. For all expats here, we need a place to vent and voice our displeasure with certain aspects of life here. I do not think this is insulting or wrong, and I do this regardless of what country I am living in.
If local people want to come on this site to practice English and learn about western views, then I think they have to stop being so damn sensitive.
When I complain about morons, it is just that I happen to be in China while I do so. I complain about stupid people regardless of where I am or what country I am in.
And yes, bad China days cause all of us to react, in different ways.
I draw the line at personal attacks and REAL outright racism.
I joined this site to learn about China and what to expect, good bad and ugly. I ask questions, and have gotten some, what I consider, very valuable answers. Sometimes I think the venting is over the top, but then... I'm not in China yet. Perhaps I'll be doing the same when I get there.
The venting hasn't been racist by.. most. There are some that walk the line. The most racist thing I have seen is Localla's... loving endearment (sarcasm) of black people calling out the.. N word. That just absolutely threw me, and because of that, I have been a little more vocal in my disdain for her. Or him. Or it.
She has shown no respect for anyone on this site, including Cat. If we could vote as a group, my guess is she would be voted out.

A person from the US or even the UK will not necersery understand a comment or joke that comes from AUS
simply its local talk and even I forget sometimes that only a select group will understand
we all uderstand Mr Bean because we see the joke
but not everybody understands the jokes in Black adder (same actor but diffrent slye of comedy)
its all greek to me and all english to somebody else

BA - but not so much the first season. Mr Bean was cool - but has become overly popular now. Red Dwarf (not the last season) and Monty Python rule!!! As for us Aussies, our humour is pretty close to unique! The sort of stuff that no-one else gets fully (except maybe Kiwis). And, bringing this back on topic, ours is a humour where we can insult each other freely with all sorts of disgusting rude words - and still be best of mates! To anyone else, they'd go right off their nut!

I write mostly to be funny, sometimes I'll give a serious comment or advice. I'm actually humourous when I talk.
I get ticked when I see something I wrote get either changed or erased. It may be a "moronic comment" ,but I'm not trying to be offensive or writting hate.
Why is hate , insults and trolling allowed while comic relief is not.
