Q: What's with the "santa playing saxophone" thing here?

I've seen a Santa playing saxophone mannequins in a bunch of storefronts in multiple Chinese cities. Is there some tradition of Santa's fondness for woodwind instruments that I don't know about? Or is this just another example of China "not getting it"?

I had the same thought yesterday. I saw the exact same saxophone-santa in 3 different stores.

there must be a very happy taobao store owner that got the scoop of the year.

at least it is not "iPhone Santa" put in a coin and he types LOL on his phone

I remember seeing those in American christmas movies when I was a kid (where cuh-raaaay-zy antics happen on christmas! wuaaaow!).

Since a lot (95%) of their knowledge of western culture comes from American mainstream movies and TV shows, well... I guess they see the saxophone as an important element of Santa's gear and christmas customs.

Anyway, a merry Saxophone-mas to you all!

I think the bigger question is: What is up with the water trucks that play "Happy Birthday"?

Scandinavian:

It's just a nicer way to get killed in traffic than e.g. get hi by a big orange schoolbus with a driver who ignores all rules.

I think the music is there to warn people about the water splashing, because they do not always stop just because a pedestrian is in the way. It is different tunes in different cities. I think in Changsha it is a xmas tune.
