Q: When is it okay to leave your contract

I wonder why every time someone ask for assistance or gives a problem the posters here say it is their fault. Rules are made up on the spot and contracts don't matter. I don't see why they should accept it. Example someone mentioned their contract said even with 30 days notice they cannot receive a letter of release and asked was it legal. Why is it so hard to give a helpful answer.

Contact the CFTU. They have the market cornered in giving out advice.

Or they would if they had a forum on their website.

I have met a lot of people here who are probably unemployable in their home countries. I tend to be able to see through their horror stories and conspiricy theories.

You need to be a full on nutter to live here.... a nutter with skills to be sold.

I have found the high horse mentality towards ESL contracts to be sort of precious. It's really cute how some people seem to think that professionalism in the Chinese ESL market is a thing. Did training schools do something to get that kind of devotion? Even public unis in China don't really merit that kind of dedication---morons forget to pay on time, screw with your passport, refuse to tell you important things until the last second, exc. When in Rome, do as the Romans. The Chinese certainly don't recognize business ethics, so why should you?

ScotsAlan:

Yup. Its all a CFTU con.Read your contract. It says when you can leave. Edit to add: It's not just teachers that can have issues with being paid on time Rachel. I have been there too. Same with last minute notifications from the company. It's a Chinese thing, not just an ESL thing.

Contact SAFEA in your city for an advice on getting Release letter and Cancellation certificate of FEC from your previous employer.

As I know, by Chinese law your employer must give you both documents in 30 days after your last working day.

Write SAFEA in search for address and contact no. in your city.

Not too long ago, I was in an Bash and Trash Expat chat room for about half an hour where I was repeatedly insulted, told that I was stupid, that I couldn't think properly, mocked, cussed at, etc. It was the usual fare from the Bash and Trash Expats.  I remained calm and eventually asked the question, "Why do you Bash and Trash Expats hate The CFTU?"  I knew the question would get an interesting response. It did.  Foul language, insults, lies, misrepresentations, hatred, condemnation, and more.  But woven throughout the numerous insults was the most common answer: "We don't hate what does not exist!"

I replied by asking how they knew that The CFTU did not exist.  I told them that if they could not give me some rational reason for denying his existence, then their position is held by faith.  In that case, why would they condemn me for my faith in The CFTU?
