I've seen the little flower shops around the residential areas but is there like any big retailer or bigger stores that specialize in selling house plants in Wuhan?
I enjoy gardening here in China. Albeit in a super limited fashion since I don't have a garden, lol. If you want to try house plants you can buy seeds on taobao. I know it isn't really what you wanted to know but no one seems to be answering your question so I thought I would provide you with an alternative. I usually buy seeds from a shop but I have tried taobao and it was fine.
Yeah, not looking to plant my own just yet (I'll do that when I leave China) but thank you for answering!!
I'm not in your city, but the plants I have I mostly bought on the street, in markets or just an old lady selling some on a corner. They seem to be everywhere.
There's a 'plant market' of sorts (like a BIG greenhouse) near Huquan Metro (on Xiongchu Dadao), they have lots of potted plants, flowers for the house There are quite a few sellers, reasonable prices and you can always bargain if you buy enough. There's also the *flower market* near XunLiTun Metro, but then again, flowers.
If I'm not mistaken in Spring/Summer, the Uptown Supermarket at the Main Gate of Wuhan University also has quite bit of gardening items/potted plants. If its not visible from outside, definitely next to the fruit section.
Your cheapest bet would definitely be what one of the previous posters mentioned though, one of those little carts with potted plants and flowers that hang around night markets and universities (less and less now, due to tighter regulation?).
Also, the WalMart near HubeiDaxue (友谊大道) has a potted plants section as do a lot of the larger supermakets (think Carrefour).
If you do decide to go for seeds, there are a lot of stores specializing in gardening in front of Wuchang Train Station (on Zhongshan St).
Hope this helpsl
