Q: Where can I find a good English (or Spanish) speaking tour guide in Chengdu?

Hello fellow foreigners,

I was wondering if anyone here could share some advice about Chengdu. I've been in China a couple months, and I'll spend some days in Chengdu for holiday. I will only be staying 4-5 days, and will be traveling with my parents who speak Spanish, a little bit of English and no Chinese. I can have basic survival conversations in Mandarin and I speak fluent English. I was wondering if anyone could advise me how to move around the city?

If anyone has any suggestions for a good tour guide (Preferably in Spanish, but English could work as well). Also any recommendations as to a hotel, restaurants (or local food dishes), hidden tourist spots, street markets, etc. will be appreciated.

Thank you all for your help!

Go to craigslist and place an Ad there. They have a section for many cities in China.

See if you can find a university or training mill student with some free time. They will speak english and know the go-to places to see. A city like Chengdu will have lots.

Hiring a tour guide from a business will be likely to put you in a group with a dozen chinese tourists and will be likely to take you to places that pay the company commission on a tight schedule - with only chinese commentary...aka buy over-priced junk from unscrupulous traders. There will be considerable pressure and possible threats should you choose not to buy the junk. And you will eat at relative's restaurants or those that pay commission to the tour guide.

A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
