Q: Where can I find radiation-proof clothes?

Several of my wife's friends are urging her to buy radiation-proof clothes to protect her from harmful computer and cellphone radiation. Where can I buy these lead suits in China?

This answer will start with a bit of ranting. !...

One. I think this is bullshit and unneeded and based on poor education and limited understanding on what is actually going on in the world. The 'common Chinese' person equates all types of radiation, where the educated part of us would distinguish if the radiation is heat radiation from a space heater or if it is gamma radiation from a nuclear meltdown.

First of all, all studies (the scientific ones) show there is no harm done to humans. Second of all, in the field of radiation protective clothing you will need to work you way through a thick layer of scammers. Thirdly, if you are afraid of this, then you also need an air-purifier, water cleaner, grow your own foods (how cool would having a cow be?) and don't drive cars built from asbestos, don't use any locally produced hygienic products etc. Basically, don't live in China.

Now the answer will turn from ranting into more of a storytelling thing....

Not sure why, but my wife and me seems to be the target of people selling baby products, I am the one looking pregnant, not her. The radiation protection is very easy to test. You need two mobile phones. You then take one phone, wrap it in the protective clothing, take the other phone and ring the wrapped phone. If the wrapped phone works at all, then the clothing does not work.

Then you need to stop and think why most of these protective clothing only cover a small part of the front belly area. Naturally the baby is at the front of the belly area, but protecting all way around would make sense, especially as the womb is water filled and radio waves penetrate the body better the more watery it is.

And probably the most relevant part of the answer, some actual suggestions...

If you do want to minimize Baby Hulk from radio waves, there are some simple things you can do.

1. Take away her phone. OK, that is not likely to fly, so get her a phone that has en EU/US SAR rating that is low. (recently noticed Samsung Galaxy Win is very low)

2. When she is at home surfing the net, get her a device that connects via cable to your router

3. Make sure you don't live next to a cell tower, the radio transmission power from the towers are way more than from the phones, oddly, most towers to not emit signals straight down, so if there is a cell tower on the roof of your building, that might not be a concern. Also, you probably don't want to live near any military installations as they would be big on using microwave transmitters.

and some actual answer

the only protective clothing that has passed the simple phone test, I have seen, was in a small village near Wulingyuan, north west of Changsha, it's pretty easy to find the place as the shop gives kickbacks to tour-guides that guide you through the Wulingyuan Scenec Area. But probably more accessible, most shopping-centers have the floor with women underwear, in a corner on that floor you will find a couple of shops selling pregnancy clothing

Hulk:

Yeah, I already knew the answer to the question. I think it's just as ridiculous as you do, and was hoping someone would rant about it. You win the award, Scamdiverian!

I think that lead clothing is not necessary for small amounts of radiation, tin foil could be enough

Or if you want a serious answer,  you can check in alibaba.com :

http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/pregnant-radiation-protection-clothes.html

Those are wholesalers, but some of them migh also sell individual clothing

philbravery:

if you tell them you want a sample item they are more helpful as they think you will buy more latter

I do it all the time

Taobao has everything but wait a second...why do you want your wife to look completely nerdy and unattractive? Those radiation clothes are bullshit. She should be more worried about the quality of water she ingests by drinking boiled tap water with heavy metals and chemicals or air pollution or a million other things. Those radiation clothes look ridiculous...

Hulk:

I'm being sarcastic, but yeah... we use clean water.

Tell her not to worry about the radiation. You ingested lots of gamma radiation and turned out ok. Now go and smash something.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
