Q: Where do you prefer to live in china? Big city or small town? North or south?

I know there are pros and cons to every location. Just wondering what you all prefer.

Big city in the south. Small towns are basically where the people without city qualifications go, which attracts other kinds of people with problems. And why would any self-respecting expat from a western country choose to live in third world conditions? I get it if you want to experience it for kicks, but long-term living? That's indicative that you have unresolved issues at home. Not saying big cities in China are paradise either btw.

I've lived in both but prefer smaller cities/town. Not poor ass 3rd world styles places but the place im at now has around 100k people and has all the services and things of a big city....just less of it like western places like KFC and pizza hut ect. The apartments are beautiful for low prices. The sky is blue here and there are no air polluting factories near by. Its close to some major cities and its easy get around in a car without having to wait in traffic all day. I used to live in Hangzhou and I did like it, Driving was a nightmare. I would live there again although once I spent some time in my wife's hometown I decided to move here and am glad I did. It's not to big and not too small...it's in that sweet spot in my opinion. I prefer center east china for the climate....its too hot south for me. But everyone is different.

I don't think all people who move to smaller towns are losers. Tons of people living in Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou etc working without the proper visas. There are a few non natives around working at school around where I live. I've met lots in Hangzhou too. The pay is just less here. I think if you get 15-20k a month you're lucky.Losers are everywhere in china, bot just smaller cities. Some people just like a slower paced environment. Im froma  small town in Canada so im use to this. I can go outside the town at night and cruise though the country and not meet a car for 15-20 minutes and go camping in the wood and there is no one around. Everyone is different though.

I think age and family status has a lot to do with it too. If my son was going to school I would go to a bigger city with better schools. And if I was single and younger I would choose a bigger city too with more shit to do. I'm 35 and married and my son is not in school yet and im only here for another year then back to my home in Canada.

Small cities to take advantage of the untapped poon that's there!

biggj123:

Yeah thats true, Although there is untapped poon everywhere lol. Just less of it in smaller towns. And more traditional girls here that dont put out on the first date...unless you give them money haha.

Best city in the Middle Kingdom is SZ.  You can wander off to HK anytime u get in the mood for a bit of world-class style living.  SZ has everything of course,,, and being near the ocean it has an ocean atmosphere,,, cleaner air I mean and the just good feeling of coastal air,,, it feels, tastes, smells different,,,,

plus in SZ you can tell newbies the story of how ol' Deng stood there looking out over HK and said 'Chiner should be like that ,, fk communism!'   surprise
