Q: Where to find imported milk powder for babies?

Are there any reliable places to buy real imported milk powder? Or has anyone had friends or family send it from their home country to you? Does the shipping make it too costly?

Try foreign owned supermarkets like Wal-Mart, Carrefour, Tesco.

also Watsons

i would always bring a couple of boxes to local friends, but the additional weight was prohibitive

RiriRiri:

Could be pure prejudice on my part, but brands like Wal-Mart or Carrefour did nothing to earn my trust in many years of operation in China. Quite the opposite.

I agree with Ri! I spotted in Dalian and Urumqi Carrefour olive oil from Italy with Chinese titles on the can. I didn't buy it, because it looks olive oil was canned in China.

So, read titles carefully, whatever you buy in Chinese run foreign Supermarkets.

Products can originate from elsewhere and still have Chinese writing on it. When you have a customer base of 1.3 billion, translating a label on a bottle of oil hardly seems like a bad investment !

I get mine sent from home (UK). It can be pretty pricey though. It worked out cheapest for us if we got each 1kg tub sent seperately. That worked out at about 25 pounds per package (including milk price) with a tracking number. No tracking number, no arrival.

Just to add, I did look into getting it from Taobao - pretty much the same price and none of the guarantee of having someone send it from home.

DON'T ANSWER THIS! this could be a wumao looking to shut down people's supply channels. chinagov is in cahoots with milk producers, so they can price gouge basic milk powder to augment its one child policy.

Scandinavian:

they did cancel the OCP !. Not that I don't agree with you (although I did answer, even after reading your comment not to answer, I trust you can appreciate my answer)

"Milk Powder" is classic non-native English speaker language!!!

coineineagh:

Well, "milk powder" gets me 25 million hits on google, and "powdered milk" just 5 million. I guess the term used by Dutch brands are redefining language. And the OCP has been *relaxed*, not canceled entirely. The milk powder market is about taxing/controlling people's reproduction, taking their money, and making them believe they need this 'vital resource' to have a baby. It's similar to discouraging the Pill (=personal reproductive freedom) and encouraging C-section (=monitoring and profit at the expense of health). I also wonder if these kind of things are also done so that the super-rich can enjoy the scenery of slim, tight and firm materialistic meat walking on the streets...

If you don't follow the traditional Chinese customs after birth, then all women will have enough milk. It's a matter of diet and determination. The cost of a breast pump is less than two tins of baby formula, and makes it possible for the mother to not have to be stuck at home all the time when time comes she has to go back to work. If you can't be bothered breastfeeding you kid, maybe you should just dump the kid at a baby hatch.

coineineagh:

True enough, but there's a lot of subtle propaganda against normal breastfeeding by the milk industry, presenting powder as better than breastmilk. it's probably very bad for the growth and development of chinese children, as well as causing a lot of allergies due to lack of antibodies. This ravenous milk market makes everyone suffer. Misinformed Chinese consumers spend lots of their income on overpriced breast milk, because once a woman has stopped breastfeeding for about 2 weeks, the productions stops. And there are innocent consumers like me caught in the middle; my wife is breastfeeding AND pregnant - a classic situation where nutritional supplements are useful and needed, but decent, safe powder is unaffordable in China. I won't even get into the narcissistsic cunts who let their kid drink powder just because they want their tits looking nice.

Hells to the no. In my heavenly home country, baby formula is mostly sold at pharmacies and the packaging will not lie about it being a substitute for the real thing rather than something better.

You can get it directly from supplement companies in the U.S.A. or Canada. Many of these companies can send packages to China via U.C.S. or D.H.L.  However, these companies have a weight and expenditure limit.

You have to apply for an import license from the Chinese customs.  This involves filling out an application and submitting a scan of your passport.  I buy one or two packages a month of any supplement or food that I want.  The delivery takes about 30 days.

For example, the company that I order from has a weight limit of 6 kgs. and an expenditure limit of $80 dollars.  The cost for transport is six U.S. dollars.
