If you must buy in China I would suggest either Suning or Gome, large companies that may offer a better after sales than the lock up shop down the road. However, when I bought my Nikon 3100 last spring I waited until I went back to the UK as prices there were cheaper and the availability of package deals were better also. The price I paid for the camera body plus 18/55 and 55/200 lenses was about £100, 1,000rmb, cheaper than here. If you can't wait to go home then check out Hong Kong as their prices for these type of goods are often cheaper.

There is  a very, very large electronics / computer section of Guangzhou about 2 - 3 kilometers down the road from Tian He Bei Lu. The stores are on either side of a very major thoroughfare and they are connected by a overpass foot bridge. If you are really wary of the quality, then perhaps you might consider Hong Kong -- it's an easy trip.  Nonetheless, all of the major camera makers are represented in this mall and there is some leeway to bargain, too.

On line Taobao there are shop with cheap price.

Get the canon brand. That's the type I'm aiming to get next. My camera just broke while I took my vacation to Hong Kong.

I have to agree with "diverdude1"..the best place to buy would be Hong Kong if you have a chance to go. At least there you know you're not gettting a "fake"..
