Q: Which internet provider and does it work?

I am currently on some kind of internet by China Unicom but it spends most of its day dying on me. Does anyone have any good internet suggestions? I am based in Beijing so it shouldn't be this hard!

I use great wall internet (长城宽带)which is pretty reliable. You can subscribe to various contracts for good prices. They had a promotion for their "fastest" internet speed which cost almost 2000 for three years, which I bought, although their fastest speed doesn't really do much for foreign websites which are all I need to access.

hi2u:

I don't know if they're in Beijing btw, but you can check.

If China Unicom doesn't work well where you are, simply try changing. I use two China Telecom lines. The installations are 8Km apart. One is spectacularly awesome, 20Mbit, stable etc. The other one blows chunks and is basically just a long stream of timeouts.

If you change provider, don't sing a long running contract at first.

Can't get Great Wall at my place @hi2u, so annoying. I think I will try China Telecom like @Scandinavian suggested. I just want it to work... Nothing extreme for me, just streaming or skyping.
