Beijing without a doubt.  Second will be Shanghai, followed by Shenzhen/Guangzhou most probably.

I might have said Shanghai first and then Beijing and then definitely Shenzhen before Guangzhou. However, if we were to factor Hong Kong into the mix, then Hong Kong would be the city with the highest rents, beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Shanghai first like 981977405 said. The average for renting in Shanghai is a lot higher than any other city.

If you do not think Beijing is the one, then Google "highest rent city in China" and see what you get.  Actually, Beijing is No 8 or nine in the world, just under New York City,  with Tokyo as No 1.

I do agree that if HKG was added, it will be above Beijing by far.

For sure it's Shanghai, i have been lived in Guangzhou for almost 2 years, everytime i go back to my hometown, i feel like there are too much differences already. If a foreigner need to live in Shanghai, at least you need to have 5000rmb for the food and pay for the transportation fee (not including the house rent).

A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
