Is there anyone especially badass? Any people that stand out, that you admire?
Pretty much anyone associated with Emperor Xuan of Han is pretty interesting, especially Huo Guang and Jin Mudi. That's who I've been reading about lately anyway and those folks are surprisingly darm awesome.
Anyway, Chinese history is full of cool stuff. I don't want to bore you with the standard, constantly-referenced ones but I'm only just now starting to get a deeper picture of the history. The Chinese especially like Liu Bang and associates, Wu of Han and associates, the first half of Tang and most of the founders of any dynasties. Yue Fei's a pretty good defeated hero. Wang Mang for hilarious name and interesting story, though the Chinese don't like him. And of course the Chinese love anying associated with the fall of Han/San Guo, but Cao Cao is the most interesting. The Chinese, again, hate him but, again, just a wonderful name.
Attila the Hun . It is thought that he was at least part Mongolian.
kchur:
Oh God damnit, no. He was thought to have been the descendent of the Xiongnu (distantly related to the Mongolians, but only distantly), except all historical evidence works against that theory, which was based on a spurious, outdated reconstruction of the pronounciation of Classical Chinese. When will that myth ever die?
xinyuren:
No one has any convincing evidence either way as far as I can read. Only description of him seems to be asian type, so I decide to think of him as Chinese.
kchur:
Asian, to a Roman, meant what's now Turkey, the Middle East, and even Ukrainia.
ip man. defeated the japenese and those damn imperialist americans (in kung fu, based on the movie hehe) then he trained the best american action hero ever Bruce lee.
Hong Xiuquan, leader of the Taiping Rebellion and self-proclaimed brother of Jesus. A very interesting figure indeed.
The Monkey King!
I am surprised I got to post this before Mattie did.
Ghengis Khan- Mongolian WarLord
Jíliú.hé:
He conquered china that meant china was part of Mongolia so he was Mongolian and anyone in that part of china was Mongolian. Though he deserves to be called the greatest Asian.
Qin Shi Huang he was an evil genius who was granted immortality by the mighty phoenix, and he rule from the shadows
Deng Xiao Peng without this man a lot of us will not be here in China.
wen jia bao i like him,may be i am wrong in spellings bt i like his figure hehe
Coolest Chinese historical figure? Is it judged by appearance only? But from the posts above I think I get it wrong?
Do you think he looks cool?I think he looks wonderful. His name is Zhang ZIzhong. He is a full rank general. He was the highest-ranked officer and the only Army group commander of the Chinese National Revolutionary Army to sacrifice in the war. He showed great valor in the battlefields and was regarded as one of the most valiant and respectable Chinese generals by the Japanese Army during the Second Sino-Japanese War(Anti-Japanese War)
This is a photo of Zhou Enlai attending the Geneva Conference, 1954.
This is a photo of young Zhou Enlai. I think he looks pretty cool in this photo. What do you think?
Hulk:
Zhou Enlai looks really badass with that trenchcoat, etc. I've been looking for an outfit like that which fits me.
Cao Cao. He was ahead of his time, and wanted everyone to be equal and not made subject to the government. No wonder the Chinese dislike him so much. He didn't get to see his plans fulfilled, but he had the ambition. Yeah, he was brutal, but you had to be brutal in those times.
ohChina:
Cao Cao? He believed everyone should be equal? I can't think of some stories of him as evidence.... I looked it up and found a story saying that he punished his own son?
This is a reply to your reply last night. Thank you Hulk and hugs back. Besides my parents and mother nature, China could be pretty much counted as my first love. China makes me happy and excited, China makes my heart broken and makes me cry. China scares my soul out of me with its horrible jails and other violence. China really makes me crazy and desperate. I'm merely a vulnerable person in a difficult life time and I need my own life.... Just like in a relationship if someone hurts the other one too much, maybe the best option is to let it go, in spite that their love was deep. Sometimes I get really pessimistic about China's future. Foreign countries constraining China of course still outrages me, but amongst Chinese it's another thing. Sometimes I really have to admit China and Chinese people well deserve the situation right now and the possibly dark future. I'll do my own share of contribution but I am afraid I am not anymore a radical patriot with blood boiling in vessels and always ready to devote my life to this country for any reason at any second. It's too easy to be manipulated and used by bad people for their purpose. I have my parents and friends and myself to care and love, and I really don't want to risk any chance to lose any of them, including myself.
I'm skeptical to my own opinions, because I don't know how reliable the history I have learned is, especially after experiencing the brainwashing education and realized the world goes the other way around. I'm also tired of the endless political debates and the politicians who call themselves noble. But yeah, I'll do what i can, at the right time, with my caution and intelligence.
