Whose know the real reason why US want to ban TikTok ? US can create another Apps ThinkTalk to substitute TikTok instead of banning the Apps.

Why US has to allow TikTok since Facebook, youtube, Twitter, google are banned in China long before?

Ban google from China is the most stupid thing, most business are on google! You can go on google to find a lot of clients!
Ie, China ban themselves from the rest of the world!
I can see most Chinese's social behavior are weird compares to people from the rest of the world! Brain damage from self isolation!!!

Stiggs:

I have no idea if this is true or just an urban myth but I read somewhere the guy in charge of internet, propaganda etc in China googled his name one day, was shocked at all the presumably negative or incriminating information about him online and blocked Google almost immediately.

Tiktok/Douyin lowers a Human's IQ. Just look at someone watching it as drool runs from the corner of their mouth and how they loose the ability to speak, pay attention for more than one minute and to have any manners.

Vacuous junk created by vacuous untalented morons.

In short tiktok sucks and is a scourge on humanity. Good riddance. It's the first piece of good news in 2020.

The real reason for US Tik-Tok ban is proprietary software in Tik-Tok ... it's an algorithm, which determines user's needs and behaviour through the website. Similar algorithms are used at other websites to sniff out user's preferences and respond with appropriate adverts (pop-ups) and similar.

https://social.techjunkie.com/how-does-the-tik-tok-algorithm-work/

"Tik Tok brings the social media app experience to a new level. It is not revolving only around the content posted by your friends or the people you follow, like Instagram or Facebook. When you launch the app you are not immediately going to see what your friends post. Instead, you will see the “For You” page."

Such algorithm is secretive, so US planned to buy Tik-Tok or ban. US wants to have a look at the algorithm and China won't let them ...

Chinese widely use such an algorithms everywhere at Chinese web. It started with the monitoring of citizens in Xinjiang through the street cameras (2012), where gov. can detect many other things beside the identity ..., so US gov. is concerned at such scanning of US citizens.

This ban of Chinese app. is just the beginning ... of Internet based bans.

White House Plans To Target More Chinese Tech Firms After TikTok, WeChat, Navarro Warns

"What I can say to the American people is that it's critical that this country not use apps that are made in China or can take our data and move it to servers in China".

Navarro warned that user data gleaned from apps like TikTok and WeChat can be used to "surveil, monitor and track" Americans.

"What I can say to the American people is that it's critical that this country not use apps that are made in China or can take our data and move it to servers in China".

"It will be used to steal your passwords, it will be used - in some cases - to blackmail or extort you," he added.

"That's the policy position underlying why we have gone after TikTok and WeChat, and there will be others because China...is basically going out around the world trying to acquire technology and influence."

Navarro even suggested that TikTok's widely praised content-feeding algorithm, credited with the hyper-addictive experience TikTok serves to users, was rooted in AI technology stolen by Chinese firms in the US, with most of the technology stolen from the biggest Silicon Valley giants.

"AI is just critical and a lot of the AI that China now has came from 2 American companies - Google and Microsoft - now we have the typical situation where China grabs content from us and now they're restricting it," Navarro said.

US conspiracy, western propaganda to smear China

Sandnose:

Could you explain what the American conspiracy is please?

You appear to imply that "the West" has conspired together (when they can't agree on anything else) to create a unified system and set of protocols specifically to make china look bad. Not only does that seem implausible and impossible to manage but China has needed no help to look bad in 2020. It's like it is trying its hardest to piss off and alienate each sector of the world.

Do you have some paranoid delusions or are you just echoing the slogans you have learned?

"In Complete Shock": China's Lead Chip Maker Denies PLA Military Ties As Trump Mulls Blacklisting

Chinese industry leaders recently warned of devastation: “The entire chip industry is too fragile to defend itself. We are at least 20 years behind compared to Silicon Valley...

Executives of Chinese companies which produce chips  vital in every device that stores data from computers to mobile phones to barcode scanners — are increasingly worried their industry is next on the Trump sanctions hit list, also after widespread reports that Beijing plans to in desperation ramp up its lagging domestic semiconductor development over the next decade as continued outside access to the most advanced chips looks increasingly in doubt.

Some are speaking out, attempting to make crystal clear to Washington that they are not puppets of either the Chinese state or PLA military. The country's largest and leading homegrown chipmaker, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. Trump Insists TikTok Sale Deadline Won't Be Extended

It's the latest stalling tactic from the Chinese tech upstart...

Update (1850ET): Just hours after White House sources reportedly suggested that the Trump Administration was weighing whether to give ByteDance another extension on the now-Sept. 15 deadline for a sale of TikTok's US business to an American entity, Trump said during a Thursday press conference.

"We’ll either close up TikTok in this country for security reasons, or it will be sold," Trump told reporters Thursday before boarding the presidential aircraft for a campaign trip to Michigan. "There will be no extension of the TikTok deadline."

We await the flurry of anonymously sourced reports advising that a deal to extend the deadline in exchange for some window-dressing, face-saving compromise has purportedly been reached.

Beijing Says TikTok's Algorithm "Not For Sale" As Deadline Looms

“The company [ByteDance] will not hand out source code to any US buyer, but the technology team of TikTok in the US can develop a new algorithm..."

As both ByteDance and Washington dig in their heels in a dispute over a potential sale of TikTok's US-focused business, the Chinese tech upstart has just sent out its latest trial balloon in what has become a rapidly escalating game of chicken: The SCMP, a paper with ties to the CCP, is reporting that TikTok's algorithm will not be sold to an American buyer.

Any potential buyer could simply buy TikTok's US business, and build its own algorithm. But the TikTok algorithm uses advanced AI technology - technology that was recently included in a list of restricted assets that can't be sold to foreign buyers without state approval. Beijing has long opposed a deal, though initially it appeared that Beijing would tolerate a sale, at a premium, to be sure, so long as it's not a "smash and grab" rush job.

Trump said Thursday that "we'll either close up TikTok in this country for security reasons, or it will be sold...there will be no extension of the TikTok deadline."

Communist Party spokespeople have accused President Trump of trying to bully the company into a sale. Now, the SCMP is saying that the algorithm isn't for sale, but a western buyer could still purchase "the car, but not the engine."

The same can be said for the movement regarding US-China links (away from each other), and for China itself (inwards: it does not attempt to hide what it is doing, after all) - but it cannot be said for either Europe, or the UK.

The matter with Tik-Tok ban in USA is just a beginning 'cause Chinese by hosting data web pocessing Co.'s around the world collecting information about foreigner nationals around the world ... Brits and other western countries will prevent Chinese web hosting Co. access to users in Britain ... Huawei among others ..

Chinese are engaging in special targeted warfare through the web ...

    https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2020-09-15/china-tracking-indian-citizens...

Chinese phones being used to commit identity theft

The Shenzhen based Zhenhua Data Information Technology prides itself on being a pioneer in making use of data for “hybrid warfare”—non-military warfare comprising of the political, economic, and technological aspects. The company has curated a global database comprising of “foreign targets”. The database information has been obtained from but not limited to web and social media platforms. The information has also been extracted from extensive research papers, articles, patents, and more.

A source reportedly said to The Print, “Open source is not an issue. The issue comes when someone is tracking the IP address or getting information from the use of Chinese phones. This is a fear that has always been there and, hence, necessary directions were issued against use of certain Chinese products, including mobile phones”

The individuals targeted by the company in India reportedly include President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi, Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Rawat, and at least 60 senior serving and retired officers of the military.

The Indian Express has also claimed that the lengthy list includes state chief and cabinet ministers, mayors, sarpanches (village council heads), and legislators, at least 1,350 politicians and lawmakers. The statement said, “Top scientists across apex bodies for nuclear power, atomic energy, and space research were on the radar, too. As were industrialists Ratan Tata and Gautam Adani, startup entrepreneurs Nipun Mehra (founder of fintech app BharatPe), bureaucrats, judges, academicians, journalists, actors, sportspersons, religious figures, and activists. And even hundreds accused of financial crime, corruption, terrorism, and smuggling of narcotics, gold, arms or wildlife.”

China is not ‘only’ tracking Indians

Further investigations have revealed that India was not the only state that fell prey to Zhenhua. The Chinese technology firm, which counts the Chinese government and military among its clients, reportedly harvested the data of over 2.4 million people across India, the US, the UK, Australia Japan, Canada, Germany and the UAE. This is a massive breach of privacy and constitutes identity theft under laws enacted by most states.

Christopher Balding, a Vietnam-based professor says, “The world is only at the beginning stages of understanding how much China invests in intelligence and influence operations using the type of raw data we have to understand their targets.”

    icnif77:

    https://www.zerohedge.com/technology/marco-rubio-sends-letter-trump-demanding-white-house-scrap-tiktok-deal

"We remain opposed to any deal that would allow China-based or controlled entities to retain, control or modify the code or algorithms that operate any U.S.-based version of TikTok...strongly urge the Admin to reject such a proposal on national security grounds" letter said.

The letter is the latest sign that opposition to the deal is growing in the GOP-controlled Senate. Rubio's letter follows a similar letter sent by his colleague Josh Hawley, another China hawk, who is concerned the company won't face nearly enough scrutiny. Hawley is advocating for a "clean break" between ByteDance and TikTok, something Beijing would, in all likelihood, never allow.

According to Reuters, Rubio's letter specifically questioned whether Oracle's workarounds would be successful at safeguarding user data, and that "serious questions" remain. The letter is addressed to President Trump. The White House hasn't yet commented, but Trump has said he's happy with the deal, and is "a fan" of Oracle founder Larry Ellison.

Hawley also put forth a bill barring TikTok from being installed on all devices issued to federal employees.

The Trump Administration's skullduggery in trying to crush a competitor isn't just a problem for China. "A hegemonic country...cannot tolerate any country above it."

Kyle Bass reminded us on Tuesday  that China's claims are simply more 'pot calling the kettle black'. By giving ByteDance a hard time, the Trump administration is essentially giving China a taste of its own medicine (foreign companies operating in Beijing are subjected to a host of controls, including forced partnerships with domestic entities), Bass argued.

Still, the editorial continued: "China, which has gone through ups and downs, will not hide or turn a blind eye to difficulties and challenges, obstacles and variables, and will not panic or get confused. After the wind and rain, it is a rainbow. It has withstood the test again and again, and we will finally go through the wind and rain and usher in a better tomorrow."

Gao Zhikai, a prominent former diplomat and translator, warned that the saga has sparked "complete disbelief" among Chinese leaders: "China wants to emphasize that the Chinese companies' legitimate rights cannot be violated without consequences." Others reminded the US of threats, leaked over the weekend, that Beijing might respond to the US's latest aggression by restricting trade, investment and visas for certain American companies by adding them to an "unreliable entities" list that Beijing used as a cudgel during the trade talks with Washington. This just further cements the impression that the TikTok-Oracle deal was just another "for show" agreement, like the 'Phase 1' trade deal.

China Complains Trump's TikTok Ban Violates WTO Rules

Hear that? It's the world's tiniest violin...

Reuters reports that during a closed-door meeting at the WTO involving representatives from both China and the US, China's representative complained that Trump's heavy handed tactics violate WTO trade rules.

The fact that the White House hasn't produced any evidence that TikTok has transmitted private data on American users to Beijing - a claim that's central to the admin's argument for banning the app on "national security" grounds - shows that the administration is in the wrong.

A representative for China said at the closed-door meeting on Friday that the measures “are clearly inconsistent with WTO rules, restrict cross-border trading services and violate the basic principles and objectives of the multilateral trading system,” a trade official familiar with the matter, who did not wish to be identified, said.

The official said the delegate described the U.S. failure to provide concrete evidence of the reasons for its measures a “clear abuse” of rules.

The US representative at the meeting pushed back.

In the same meeting, the United States defended its actions, saying they are intended to mitigate national security risks, the trade official said. The government has previously said data from American users is being accessed by the Chinese government.

The office of the U.S. Trade Representative had no immediate comment. An official at the Chinese mission to the WTO did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Chinese statement will not have any consequences on its own although China could launch an official legal complaint about it to the Geneva body.

While this doesn't necessarily mean that China will pursue another action against the US via the WTO if Trump doesn't drop his pursuit of TikTok, it's certainly a possibility. And it wouldn't be the first time China has manipulated the international trade body to Beijing's advantage.

China banned Google, as China doesn't want all business/personal info to be on Google's database...

U.S. bans Tik-tok, partly for the same reason, that's probably why U.S. says only if Tik-tok joins venture with Oracle...

As for conspiracy theory enthusiasts talking about political influcences, (sigh) don't know what to say, I don't know what kinda political agenda there is behind a private owned Internet company...

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
