I can't understand why people get angry and aggressive when they have a drink here. They just seem to want to attack everyone. I don't like it at all so I keep to myself. Your comments
Well personally, the only time I ever actually become aggressive and start fights is when a man lays a hand on a female, if I'm sober or not.
Saying that, you really don't understand why so many foreigners here become angry when they drink?
You are enough of a regular to this site to see that a lot of venting about the craziness we see in China goes on in this Q&A site. Even with that, not everything can be vented here, but there are many foreigners that don't have a place like this to vent. So it just builds until alcohol gives it a chance to get out and release some of the suffering.

That's my point! why do people want to be here if they have so much anger? or is this the western way now? Anger with everything?
I dont think its the drinking.... we are more aggressive and dont take crap from no one. Short fuse?
I think a lot of foreigners in China drink much more because it helps them deal with being in China. I know after a "bad China day" all I want to do is get really drunk and try to forget about it. Bad China days usually make me angry as well, although in my case, I don't get violent, I just get snarky and talk smack. Just my 2 cents.
I think that some people hold back their anger, but because alcohol relaxes inhibitions, it easily comes to the surface. How many foreigners do you know that you can say a lot of them get angry when they drink? I think there are plenty that don't. I don't really like to drink, so I haven't had more than a few sips of beer since I have been here. It still tastes awful. Maybe they are disappointed in the taste?
actually it depends on the culture at all...
eliminating the ones who hide their angers or the ones having a bad chinese day, some foreigners lost control after drinking too much...
considering 1 person drinking alone...
i saw that russian people became more isolated (inside) when drunk and dont like too much talking
british people are ready to fight after 3 beers , buts thats not why they are bad, thats their culture
german people i guess cheered after drinking and so does turkish people do
i also drank with danish people, they feel like vikings sometimes when they got drunk
so its all about culture i guess...
How come all the fights I see in San Li Tun are between large groups of Chinese guys then?
Might have something to do with being thousands of miles from home in a country very different from theirs with a bunch of people who will never understand the foreigner and who the foreigner will never understand. Probably no real friends either.
This is not about China or culture or being far from home.
Some people become violent dicks when they drink and other people just become happier and friendlier (like me).
Back home I have drank with many people like that, and you know what, I don't drink with them again.
When people drink a lot, generally their true feelings and personality come out. If you really want to get to know someone, then drink with them.
Maybe that's why drinking is so prevalent in the business culture here (ok all over the world).

Sometimes people are just douches and like you said it brings out their true feelings. If a person genuinely isn't happy in China then they do become violent and/or unpleasant to be around a lot of the time when they're hammered. I've seen it here several times.
I get more funny and laugh even more when I'm drunk. The most violent I get is if I throw a peanut at you when you're not looking and then straight face you like I don't know anything.
The staff at my hotel thought I was drunk all the time, because I was in such a good mood, all I did was laugh and joke around.. I may have been walking around with a beer, I never even got a buzz on.
There are some parts where people like drinking and having a fight, often for the fun of it, or because some guy had been overstepping some bounds that week. Where I grew up, closing time was after a big fight broke out.
Nothing wrong with that, in my opinion. Good way to let off steam, and a drunk fight doesn't do half the damage a sober fight does. From Sunday to Friday, we were a lot more friendly and agreeable than in places where that doesn't happen.
Thanks for your answers. The reason I posted this question, is because some foreigners at my University have caused some problems with parties and abusing the security people etc!!
alcohol controls you when its inside human system, they get angry because of the imbalance of hormones and chemicals in brains....... ....... they get angry because they pill up the angry stuff about their living and life in their heart and mind, when they drink they are out of control so i guess that is why they are angry
It has got all to do with alchohol and nothing to do with China. The same thing happens everywhere. For some a few drinks is all about having a good time and a laugh but unfortunately there are many who after too many take on a completely different persona to that which they show when sober. They either become obnoxious by talking to you while about an inch from your face, beligerantly just repeating the same shit over and over or they become extremely violent. In western society this violence is on the increase and what used to be at worst a drunken blue between two people has now progressed to a pack mentality often associated with giving the victim a solid kicking while on the ground by a gutless group of young people. Many places in Sydney around popular nightclub areas are almost no go zones for anyone just after a peaceful nights enjoyment these days. Maybe where i go in China there has been less westernised and one of the things that I like here is the absence of these pricks and their selfish behaviour. Believe me I feel much safer walking around downtown Shenyang in the night time than I do in many parts of Sydney.
If you're a foreigner in China why the heck would you be angry when you drink ? Being around these people , I'm angry when I DON'T drink
because once we are drunk we can easy demonstrate our insatisfaction with a lot of things that bother us, like warm beer for instance
