I've been around the university districts here, and the universities are all walled, with guards and everything... What's up with that?
Maybe some may say to keep the roaches out, but to me the main reason is control, from higher ups in Chinese Government to local bureocrats, "CONTROL" is everything.
True, it doesn't really make sense especially when all students can go out anytime and the guards don‘t question u when u enter...
But my college is quite different, it's like a prison... So I was in "prison" for 5years...
The walls at this college are to keep the students in. Their curfew during the week is at 7pm, which I think is very early. The curfew on weekends is at 10pm, which is a little better, but I think it's still early. If they get back late, they get written up. Unlike schools in the west, I was told that schools in China are liable for the students, and that parents would be upset if they thought their children were not looked after. I guess college students are not treated like adults here.
why not, even in britain there are walls around universities.
Maybe it's a manner which is used to facilitate the university management.
"Stone walls do not a prison make,: Nor iron bars a cage "but throw in a curfew and a slave mentalitet and all wille is lost.
