I haven't been here in Shenzhen very long, but I've noticed on many occasions, at different times of the day (usually mornings or afternoons) employees of small businesses like restaurants, real estate firms, etc...lined up in rows outside, listening to (I think) the manager talking for a while...sometimes they repeat words in a droning voice, sometimes they shout...I've even seen some doing a special dance outside every morning.
What is it? motivation? telling off? calisthenics?
It's a team building excersise. It also keeps them from becoming depressed. I think they borrowed this from Japan but I'm not sure.
It's to get them ready for the new day, to remind them the customer is important. Like most people you need to make them aware of their job and what it entails, especially if it is mundane.
To make them a collabrative team. It may seem mundane but most of the employees enjoy this, it makes them feel part of the system, like they are more than just a number.
