Q: Why do some shops have a waving cat next to the till?

Are cats considered lucky? Is that a Chinese thing or Japanese thing? So weird!

Yes , you are right .
In china , people always call it : zhao cai mao .
Because the boss think the cat have some meaning :
a lot of that kinds of cats can say : "hello" ," goodbye ""welcome " and "welcome to the next "and so on .
warm kitty .
the cat always smile to everyone .
Lucky cat , many person believe the cat can give the shop good luck .
So some shops have it .

what's your culture? Indian? In the UK if a black cat walks across your path it is considered unlucky. But normally cats have a neutral significance.
