Because a large proportion of foreigners on this site are English teachers, which makes them more likely to criticise (or be criticised for) bad grammar.

Most of the criticism serves no purpose other than self-gratification.

royceH:

Yes, this is the correct answer.

Sometimes, however, the Nazis aren't only suffering from BCLD Syndrome, they also have a point.  It can be a fine line...

Nice title and true.  As said a big percentage of people on here are probably teachers.

They also slate teachers that don't have BA's -to which they have most likely not done Teaching as a major...but as they have done a BA makes them a fully fledged teacher...

As a forum we are allowed to be a little relaxed on are typing.  -Thx god for the added spell check or i be f******

As I am in the running for the worst grammar/ typer dude on this site, i appreciate the post. I wanna say it but because my english is so ass, itll just look like im complaining.

Seems like every day i got some dude saying I shouldnt be a teacher or I dont speak english hahah if they only knew.......

I also think some people are a little too quick on the draw and dont recognize typos.

On the other hand, some dudes be posting shit and I dont know what they hell they be saying.

Why native nons teaching cant jobs get? Huh? Is this a puzzle? Am I being timed?

icnif77:

I just realized, I was using word 'mice' and 'mouse' as 'the same meaning words' in 'Dream' tread. I wasn't aware, mice is pl. of mouse. Since I admitted, you should all read 'sleep' tread again. The "Jelly' affair" especially! LOL

When people tell me I shouldnt be a teacher cuz my english is shit, i just have to shut up.

I wanna be all well I am NOT a teacher fuck face. But I dont wanna look like a douche looking down on people and anyways, by doing that I would be admitting that I was a waste for the last 5 years I was a teacher. And i thought I was pretty damn good at it.

mike695ca:

I dont have your excuse...im usually on my computer.. and i have a note 1 ...specifically bought to accommodate my fat fingers...and i still screw it all up.  I see like 20 red underlines from spell check... Fuck spell check, my voice must be heard now!

I am not an teacher, but I do often point out poor English when the question refers to employment as an English teacher.

Examples:

I is looking for job for english teacher.

why chinese dont take indian teacher in their schools as english teacher?

why is it so impotant to be native speakers to find a Teaching job??

If you can not write in literate English or be bothered to right click when there is a red line under a misspelled or incorrectly not capitalized word, how do you expect to be taken serious as a teacher or professional. Typos happen, however it is obvious some of these individuals have little grasp of the English language or why they "no can teach english"

mike695ca:

Completely agree. I just dont care. They sure arent taking my job.  Their poopy english isnt gonna effect my life one bit. So if they wanna teach english, let em. The natural progression of things will even out eventually. And hell , if it werent for crappy english teachers, some of us wouldnt look so good!

I'm not a teacher, nor a native English speaker. I do mistakes. Despite this, I appreciate when I see some efforts to write a nice post, with punctuation, proper writing, and less than half of the world miss-spelled. Crappy posts without structure, punctuation and one mistake per word, gives me the same feeling as a dish of soup thrown at me across the room by an angry cook. There are auto-correctors and edit function. Besides, I can haz cheezburglar ?

I'm with CharlieB and DrMonkey : if you come across to others as an illiterate hillbilly, then expect to be considered and treated as such.

Common spelling errors and typos (Chian, anyone?) are not a big deal. Acting liek yuos on yuos biatch fon dissin yuos hos aint nvr gunna giv yo the street cred roun heah.

I'm not only a teacher, but I'm the one who does the hiring. if i find u right liek dis on da net, i haint gonna sider u 4 a job...evah!

Sum ppl no care, but whut u do online might come back and bite u ltr on.

So, try to be eloquent and at least semi-literate.

@samsara: so ture, so ture.

not at all, i enjoy taking shots at people that slyly brag. find creative ways to point out that they arent "just" your average teacher. They are better. Self gratification at others expense. im surely not saying im completly innocent. but still enjoy pointing it out none the less.

"Slyly brag"? I've been a program director for various programs in China for 14 years. I'm currently a partner in an educational company. I still teach because I like to.

My point was, for those who are GMs at the airport where everything else goes over their heads, is that colloquial and lazy English is fine between friends, but isn't going to get you taken seriously outside of your own circle. Self-gratification? No, I take pride in my work and my students. I don't look down upon others or demean them, some people take care of the self-debasement all by themselves.

Self gratification is a fitting term there. Im glad you like teaching, but dont try and act like you didnt sit there and come up with a paragraph solely for the purpose of sharing with everyone how your "not just a teacher". It was a post about grammar nazis.

Did you ever think that people do treat this forum as a circle of friends? That they sure as hell were not worried about one day having to stroll into the great and powerful Sinobear's teaching area for an interview?  No one gives a shit if you would hire them.

But you know that. The whole purpose was inflating your ego. And your only proving it further by getting so defensive about me calling you out. If you truly where so great, you wouldnt need the justify yourself to a lowly guy like me.  If you have been here for this long you should realize that " program director" is not going to grant you any more respect, just eye rolls.

There are countless posts discussing this exact topic of people being a teacher, but wait! so much more!

As your people skills are obviously lacking let me help you out on how to deal with people in a group setting.  Hypotheticals. Its not hard.  " IF I WERE interviewing someone with poor grammar, I WOULDNT, blah blah blah"  you get the same point across without shoving it in everyones face.

Your welcome. That ones free.

It's pretty simple. If you can't be bothered to actually think about what you want to say before saying it, then you shouldn't be taken seriously. When someone is (or claims to be) a native speaker, there is no excuse (and "Lolz. My English is stoopid, but I dun care b cuz iz 2 cool for grammmor" is not a valid excuse).

On a forum like this, all communication is through writing, so how you write reflects on you in a huge way. Write in a lazy and unintelligent manner, and expect to be treated as a lazy and unintelligent person.
