Q: Why was I blacklisted?
Hi. I finally got a job back in China. The university filed for the work permit today and said it was immediately rejected. All my paperwork was fine, but they basically said I was blacklisted. The immigration department wouldn't tell them who filed something bad on me, or what it said, but that I couldn't get a work permit anywhere in China anymore. They said I have to figure out which employer filed something bad on me and have them fix it but there wasn't much hope. I am just completely shocked. Has anyone had an experience like this? Or have any good resources to deal with this? I have literally never over-stayed my visas, ever done anything illegal or been arrested, nothing. I am baffled and just in shock. Thank you in advance

Reason might be the current negative sentiment between China and USA with other western (EU & Japan) countries.
They are keep banning each other for this or that and restricting access to a vital resources, i.e. Rare Earth metals as the latest Chinese export ban.

The Biden Administration is planning to limit Chinese access to U.S. cloud computing services, which could have significant implications for major tech players.
I'd say, in your position, it would be easier to forget China and move elsewhere ... especially if you hold a native English passport.
If that so, English teaching world is wide open for you.

Well, I found out what happened. Apparently, my old university, in Hefei, put some horrible comment on my immigration record so that I will get rejected whenever applying again. I have contacted all my old bosses because I am completely shocked by this, but they won't respond. I'm trying.

Chinese revenge ... probably because you haven't obliged to their demands ...
In my time in China, I had to dial SAFEA (Foreign Expert Bureau) at every school I've worked in 8-years and I've always had a contract only with the Public schools.
Backing of SAFEA most likely saved me from the similar bad record.
Ohh, well ... go elsewhere and forget China ...
