I press submit just after I have pasted my cover letter a black border appears around the icon and nothing happens when I click it. It doesn't submit the cover letter. I have applied for seven jobs lately. Is there a limit?

Hi Governer (Blondie),

Shouldn't it be spelt "Guv'nor" ?

Sorry to hear about the harrasment you got in China. If I was in your position I would have probably done the same thing.  I do have family ties and also stay because of the good job opportunities here, so will be staying at least for the immediate future.

Thanks Emperor (Icnif77) for getting me up to speed on the classifications. I guessed that it was based on post count.

Good day to you both sire and my lady. (Doffs metaphorical cap and bows).

if there is a problem with the site when you make an application, contact the Admin.

Anyway, don't expect to be able to actually enter China any time for the forseeable future.

Stiggs:

Agreed, unless you're applying from within China you're probably wasting your time.

Thanks Blondie. Initially, I thought by asking a question here I was contacting the admin.  I will work out how to contact them. I've since worked out that I can still apply for jobs and send resumes but for some reason I can not submit cover letters. Maybe my word count has suddenly become to high.

To Blondie and Stiggs, I am in Beijing China looking for a new job. I can imagine how hard it is to get into China now.  Thank you both for your input!

Blondie_:

the Admin on this site are (sadly) next ot useless.

The only response they seem to make is deleting questions or comments and who ever it is fails to engage or answer simple direct questions.

there is a 'contact us' address (somewhere) for the site but it is not easy to find.

if you are in China the best suggestion i could give is to get out.
get out as soon as you can.

the government there looks like they are trying to completely break China with the imprisonment of it's population on a gradual basis.

good luck

@gary.
it is unprecedented that the Admin has actually responded below.

The 'contact us' button at the bottom has not elicited any repsonse in the number of years i have been on this site until today.

Stiggs:

@ Gary ... good luck, although since you're already in China I'm sure you're in a pretty good position as far as finding a new job goes.

I don't know how true it is but I read somewhere that a lot of schools aren't even bothering to advertise positions now, not because they wouldn't jump at the chance to hire someone but because with the border situation and everything they see it as a waste of time even trying.

Something you may want to consider if you're having trouble finding the perfect job is approaching schools in the cities that interest you directly and asking if they're looking for teachers.

You can enter the name of the school you want to apply to any search engine and contact them directly through 'Contact Us' displayed at the school's website.

I was applying to employers in China always that way, some 8-years or so.

I've never uploaded my CV here 'cause I don't use Windows OS and my files most likely aren't compatible with Windows-ing on this website.

Good lucky!

P.S.

Admin: Raincoasts pints should be fiercely deducted from Blondie's total count ... surprise

Stiggs:

That's probably the best way to do it if you can't apply through ECC.

My concern though would be that there's nobody checking the email address on the school website, or if they are checking it not passing it on to whoever does the recruiting because recruiting isn't their job.

I've got steady replies through the employers' websites ... and when I didn't get a reply, I'd always repeat application a week or so later. I usually mark 'no-reply' to my non-English nativity,

I've also used few of good placement agents. Got my best teaching positions through the placement agents ..

That all happened before the Labor law changes in 2017.

Thanks again Blondie and Stiggs and also icnif77 for your replies and advice. I have found a list of virtually all, if not all international in schools in Beijing. There are opportunities on it, to apply directly to the schools for job positions thus eliminating the recruiters. You can usually be sure the contact method is up to date if the jobs they are advertising for are new: for example August 2022 positions are up to date. Recruiters definitely have their uses though, by way of doing some of the "leg" work for you and often being first to know when specific schools have openings.

Thanks admin, too, for your help. I did receive an e-mail from one of your reps with advice.

Thanks again all,

Gary

Update. My problem is fixed. I can now send cover letters. Thanks admin and all who replied.

I've just noticed I'm classified as a peasant on this site. That explains the piece of straw sticking out of my mouth and the patched up threadbare trousers I'm wearing. Better get a job soon. Lol.

Blondie_:

Good luck wtih your job search.

but i will admit this is the FIRST time in the many years on ECC that i have seen an Admin actually respond in a helpful way to a direct question.

Must be a new Admin !

the number of times i have asked the Admin questions both in questions, comments, PM's and emails, i never got a response.

a few years ago I was banned, accused of spamming (which I didn't btw) weeks of emailing ECC on the contact address below and any other email address I could find resulted in nothing.

unless you have family ties in China you would be better off leaving, but it is your decision.

Currently on the main article page, there is a poster who throws abusive comments to posters who ask direct questions, calling sorrel a 'dog', and behaving in a very creepy and pervy way, (and worse), yet despite complaints and MANY MANY emails, the Admin does nothing.

I was sick of the casual (sexual) hrassamewnt and abuse i encountrered in China and applied for a transfer out of China as soon as I could, and advised my employer to withdraw their business also.

They did.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
