Q: Can I work in China as an english teacher if I don't have a bachelor degree?

I have a TEFL certificate for 120-hours and a college degree.

I'm too lazy to go through the links there but is that from a recent source? I thought the degree was a firm requirement now.

icnif77:

"...you should address your questions to the Public Security Bureau in China."

This guidance came out of one of the links.

I read it quickly and ... it's all there, i.e. native English passport holder, BA, Non-crim. cert. and more, so I guess that's current. There's no date on the link or it might be somewhere ,,,, but this is a placement agency.

These are the first three links on search for "ET Working visa requirements in China".

I guy I know from South Africa was asking me a few days ago if he'd still be able to teach in China. He taught there previously but his degree was only a three year deal, or something like that.

I'm pretty sceptical but I'll tell him and he can do what he wants with it. He's probably like most white guys in SA at the moment, freaking out over the riots going on there.

He could get an answer at Chinese Embassy, but BA is required for Z visa.

Yeah, I read about SA yesterday, Indians and whities ... are afraid.

I worked with one white S. African DOS in Istanbul. She changed the countries forever few years ago, Her grown-up son, too.

From what I'm reading it's not just about Zuma being charged now, it's about people being p1ssed off with society there, unemployment, the system etc.

Yeah, Zuma's arrest is just a cause ,,, I always have in mind whites who were born there ... i.e. however you turn, yer arse is always behind ...

My SA DOS was doing well in Istanbul last time I spoke to her. She was stressed 'cause of bad news from home ... and worried about her relatives who still live there.

She's got native English passport, so English teaching/mill's managing doors are open everywhere despite she's a nurse by her original profession.

Did you ever see the movie Zulu? Rorke's Drift, a few English soldiers against the Zulu nation who decided enough was enough.

No, I didn't see the flick ..., but historically, SA Military&police were famous ... at beating and subduing.

I'd say, SA whites are better off elsewhere ... in long term.

Ruski Vlad offered some incentives to SAfrican farmers a year or two ago and I believe many SA whites are already in Russia. South of Russia, Krasnodar's area ...

I have one Zulu flick from 1964 on FW. That's ages ago .. another one is 'Zulu Dawn' from 1979. That's still firmly P. Botha's time ..

There's one Zulu from 2013 .. am d/l-ing it. Let see..

I've been trying to contact my mate in SA, he's gone off the grid. I hope he's bunkered up somewhere safe and not dead in a ditch somewhere.

What happened to Spider's reply?

I up-voted his concise reply "No" ... It looked nice as the most valuable answer, he he. Big Admin didn't like it ...

You could give your SA buddy this link:

... and tell him to shoot them an email. They (placement agency) will reply if his degree is OK for Z visa ...

Yep, there were probably lots of movies made about it. It's a true story, not dissimilar from Custer's last stand.

I might check out that 2013 Zulu flick. The original was really good, hopefully the newer version is better.

@Spider: It isn't only you. I got removed some 3-4 posts per week. Ones are bashing China, but there was a report of new Cofid outbreak in Guangdong and it get removed too.

I am guessing, there are 2 Big Admin on the top of mine, one is English and removes by some posting rules and another one is a guy straight from the gov. 'cause we must celebrate 5000-years or sumtin' ...

Your short answer 'No' here was the most suitable answer at this thread and once I up-vote it, it hanged on the top of the page ...

@Stiggs: The other Zulu from 2013 or so is some SA crime movie and it isn't worth it. SA cinematography is corny ... I don't know why, but I can't take it. I was watching a month or so ago "Escape from Pretoria" 2020, but its nothing special.

The original Zulu from 1964 is just " ... from 1964 ..".

The only good movie from similar date is "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" ... They should 'Oscar-it' again just because of the date of release ..

@icnif Ok I'm not interested in some stupid crime movie. I liked the old Zulu though, probably because I saw it when I was a kid. It's a good story and true too which I always like. I saw it again fairly recently and yep, it's obviously an old movie.

Yes and no. There are plenty of people who get teaching jobs in China with no degree. However they're probably not legally allowed to be teaching. Supply and demand.  Schools who are hard up for a teacher will hire whomever they can get their hands on. Schools get busted regularly for hiring unqualified teachers. Years ago I met a guy in his  fifties who bragged to me how he got a job teaching at a university and had no degrees at all. He said he just had someone photoshop a degree for him. So it happens and people who are from non native english speaking countries get jobs all the time. But these people are going to generally make less money than native speakers or live in fear of getting reported and deported when someone figures out their work history or degree is bogus. So if you don't have a degree or work history this probably isn't an ideal way to make money.

Please Consider my Application.

I am a Graduate of an Education Course and eleven years in Teaching already in different level, from Primary, Intermediate, College and Tertiary Level together with Graduate level.
I Graduated Masters in Educational management and have completed 120 hours TEFL and gained Certificate of Completion. I am also a state licensed educator and i wanted to work in China. Would you consider my profile for your reference? Hoping forward for your most favorable response.

icnif77:

It's a wrong place for posting your CV.

Nobody will hire you at the 'Answers' part of this website.

See 'Find Jobs' tag, on the top of the screen, L side, find suitable job, city and apply/send your CV.

Chinese job advertisers and recruiters don't reply, if for some reason cannot employ you, i.e. cannot secure Z (Working) visa.

Never mind! Keep sending your CV until you land an invitation for an interview and contract offer.

Good luck!

P. S.

Non-native English passport holders cannot get legal employment in China. Only citizens of UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and S. Africa, i.e. native English speakers can be legally employed in China.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
