As soon as I would know the amount I can make per each report, I'd visit the School and see if they are willing to pay more ...  for keeping the secret ...

Why do you want to remain anonymous. Be bold and report them. Don't hide behind shadows

Simple questions... are these schools underpaying or over working these teachers? Are the teachers not doing the job right? Is child safety endangered?

If yes, personally boldly report this.... if not, mind your business sweetie, there is enough room at the top for everyone....

Hope you aren't getting jealous because you are no more the center of the world. If it's for genuine reasons that endangers both you and the children safety or affects the kids studies, then you should have the bones to do it on your own. I think there is something fishy behind your attitude. Stop being a chicken and man up.

I know a few teachers that are working without a legal work permit. One is on a marriage visa and one is saying it's voluntary but is getting full salary.  I could easily report them but I have known them for years so would feel bad about it. The one on a spouse visa has a spouse who has cancer so there is no way I would report.

However, if the police do a check on the  school the ones without legal permits would be in big trouble as would the school. The school inform the teachers not to show up or are warned prior to the police arriving.I also know people who have been caught teaching at training centres

The main point is the legality and obeying the law.

icnif77:

You (all working laowai) are in China. Who's more at fault, Chinese Training mill and schools, who let illegal worker work and pay most likely miserable salaries or foreign worker, who undertakes the illegal work offered??

A year after my start in China, I was employed by an employer, which didn't sponsored Z visa, but rep. said to me " ... we'll get you F (Business) visa ..".

Of course, that was illegal work and I was aware of that, but what was my choice? Exit China and find legal Z visa sponsor or stay where I was and work with F visa?

It was the Chinese company, which sponsored wrong, F visa and not Z by the Chinese law.

There was no cost at 2nd (F visa) option, so I worked with F for several months. Then, employer started to disrespect signed and stamped contract (lowered my pay & increased working hours) and after my complaint, he wouldn't retreat the added classes and wouldn't increase my agreed pay.

I went straight to the Foreign Expert Bureau (... called 'SAFEA' in 2010) in Hangzhou and filled a complaint as an illegal worker against the Chinese Co./employer.

SAFEA supported me 100% and I received all late wages per contract and an offer for Z visa, which I declined. (I got another contract with another employer and Z visa in the meantime.).

I've never heard anything from SAFEA about my illegal work. I simply asked SAFEA at my complaint: "Where is my fault, if Chinese Co. employed me under the wrong visa?"

I've never violated the signed contract not a single bit!

Name of the Co. was "Helen Group" from Hangzhou ... You can find my threads here about it posted at the time ..

My advice? Keep in your lane. If you know teachers who are working illegally, it would be them that suffer should you report the school. Wouldn't it be better to have a quiet word wqith the teachers, find out there situation, and help them out?

There are many reasons people find themselves working illegally. Some intentional, some not. The non-intentional ones have been tricked and are the victims. Help them find a way to get legal employment.

If you are working without Z-Visa, Working Residence Permit, and Foreigners Work Permit for the job and location, you don't have an enforcable contract.. You may be lucky in having an employer who does exactly what they promised in the contract, but why take the risk?

Without an enforcable contract Chinese Employment Laws don't protect you. Get legal if you can, and if you can't know the risks. We shouldn't do anymore than try to give meaningful advice - as the saying goes: "You can lead a horse to water..."

Now, on the Native/Non-Native Issue. Yeah, it's shitty. There are many, many, many great ESL teachers who are non-natives, including Chinese teachers. Hell, I know enough great Local Teachers who are wonderful with their students and whose English is more than adequate to teach it. But clients don't pay the equivelant. This is market driven, clients pay premium for Foreign Teachers That's the reality and why many training centres scam both the teachers and the clients. Caveat Emptor. Reporting the schools will just get some teachers in trouble.

Sure, some teachers have eyes wide open and know that they are running the risk. Not my problem, their choice is their problem. If schools employing illegals bother you, it's simple. Don't work for those schools. Don't work for those employers. It will eventually be non-cost effective for them to hire illegally because they'll have to pay too much for those that want to run the risk. Market driven economics 101.

So, in conclusion, keep yourself legal and yourself safe, help those that want or need your help, and keep in your lane regarding 'illegals'. Because if you're fully legal, China is the mollusc of your choice.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
