Q: Craziest diet you've seen here?

We had our annual party last week and a girl told me that she's on a diet where she pretty much eats loads of shrimp and plain rice, drinks diet tea and eats a slice of pomelo for dinner. She wants to weigh 48 kilos- she currently weights 54 kilos.

I have no idea where she got this from.

Have you noticed any crazy dieting among your friends/ colleagues?

China is a fantastic place to hear all their crazy diet advice and stories. The one that makes me laugh the most is when they say: "I'm on a diet, look at what I'm eating for lunch!"

In their lunch box is a pile of fried vegetables in about 3cm of oil, together with the standard 1kg of rice.

Their idea of a diet is not eating meat. When you tell them that eating a grilled chicken breast is better than a ton of deep fried vegetables, their heads explode with confusion.

Then there is also the diet teas that make you go to the toilet every 10 minutes.

But you know, Chinese bodies are different to us "aliens"

humbug:

Yeah giving up  meat seems to be a big thing here- not all meat is unhealthy, if you just eat in moderation and don't deep fry it.

Some of the girls I work with are always trying to lose weight and are quite obviously getting nowhere with it.. We talked about calories, exercise etc in the office more than once and apparently everyone understands the connection but... at lunch time they still eat the same deep fried oily mess they eat every day then stand around hitting their bellies, because 'as everyone knows if you hit your belly after a meal you'll lose weight'.

humbug:

Right!  when I suggested exercising instead of starving herself, she said she didn't want to get too 'strong'.

She's a tiny Chinese girl, there's no way she's gonna get bulky from going for a run once in a while.

No meat is a big thing here, not by concern for the animals however.

in class i have seen girls who clearly don't need to diet almost faint from not eating, because they 'think they are too fat'

48 kg is not too fat for an adult.

Equally, some of them say they don't eat noodles/rice, but stuff their faces on the pink processed meat **** that is so popular: but eating is not allowed in my class (who wants to be in a room all day that smells like a canteen), so they can do what they like outside.

Apparently eating too much fresh fruit is bad for you also.

Nothing is said about exercise, or if it is, they are 'to tired' to do any - what do they expect if they are not eating ?? crying

All the women I've met in China choose not to eat after 3pm because they saw that on a TV soap opera.

They also don't drink anything so that they don't have to use the filthy, stinking, pathetic, disgusting excuses for toilets in China.

They must have very strong pelvic floor muscles from having to face this problem every single day.

Skipping meals, specifically dinner, seems a common diet, and is crazy in that it's unhealthy and medically unsound.

The whole thing with fad diets seems to be that girls want to lose weight and be super thin without exercise, since they fear exercise will make them too muscular, which they see as a bad thing.

my wife got idea from one of hers friends :

pour winegar into a wide bottle.

throw 2 fresh eggs in

stir and cover with lid and keep fior 1 week at least.

than you drink a glass of this before dinner.

I tried to push her out of this mind for so long, but she still want to try,. she did. she drank that for abolut a week.

destroyed her stomach a bit, as I predicted ...

royceH:

Hey, my wife made me something like that for breakfast a couple of days ago.  Beaten eggs in hot water and vinegar.  It tasted pretty good.

Just lmao at some of these answers!  Even starving yourself is better than drinking disgusting vinegar with eggs in it!  I wanna puke just from the smell of stinky vinegar. Literally dieting is just sorta slowly starving yourself while doing a tad bit exercise to put you into a caloric deficiency, and upping it a bit after a few weeks.  It's hard to do unless you're super committed.  Just wow at the vinegar story, that takes the cake for me!

Nessquick:

thanks mate, i knew i will win some hearts :D

It was really weird and disgustingly smelly, ye she admit it, but still drank it.

some other ideas was as eat only a apple for a week, or drink only few glass of milk for a week...

I always explained to her that it is not use, because body need all of things for correct working. so after one week o starwation body will ask for all the missing things and fridge will be emptied in a minutes ... :D

To say TCM is thousands of years old, the general populace have absolutely no idea what's healthy or how to diet. The most common one I see is just not eating anything for lunch.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
