It may be wishful thinking to want to be a foreign nurse in China. There's no shortage of local nurses, you'd need to speak, read and write Chinese and the hours and conditions would be difficult for an American to accept. You'd need to be retrained in tcm and other sinocentric practices. Let's not forget the pittance of a salary.

Not that you could even enter the country if by some miracle you managed to swing a work permit.

Surely there must be a demand for nurses in America with the coof doing the rounds and a civil war kicking off later this month.

In China you would be expected to pass a nursing school, then a nursing exam administered by the hospital, start at 2000 rmb an hour in a tier 2 city, 3000 for a tier 1 city with a raise of 50 percent in 6 months. You would be subject to sexual harrassment constantly in most cases unless your connected by family to the CCP. It's a wonderful job but if you can speak English, can pass the NCLEX exam by registering in the state of Vermont, a socialist utopia that will allow you to register without a social security number an take the exam in Saipan because of systemic cheating in China does not allow the test to be given, then you could with overtime make 85000 dollars a year in a major city where spoiled middle class kids don't want to take care of gang banger shot victims and would rather work in the suburbs with broken legs from soccer games. Since spoiled suburban raised American nurses don't want to work in densely urban crime infested cities, jobs are very plentiful, just park an RV in the parking lot, load up on ammunition and rake in the dollars and leave for the suburbs when your bank account is big enough like everybody else does.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
