Q: Does it cost extra to text long distance?

Curious about long distance calling and texting (within China, but across provinces).

Does it cost extra to text across provinces?  Is long distance calling a lot more expensive, or just a little more?  As it is, I find the phone service pretty cheap, and wouldn't mind if it's only a little more expensive.

Come on you progressive liberal blood sucking tax gougers, we need more revenue from the productive to pay for the non productive who play on the phone all day with no job to pay the phone bill and of course the corporate cell phone providers that finance our re-election get to shake them down already for high rates so they will be happy to collect the tax for us while we do nothing but promise more free shit with the money to keep our deadbeat voters happy and stay in power to shake people down with another new tax scheme next year. Yes, you pay more when you call a number from another province. Not sure how much more.

And texting to another province also costs more. I think I pay about 0.5 yuan for a text to another province.

I'm a China Mobile user.

I use wechat for long distant phone calls

ScotsAlan:

Ha ha.. my family refuse to put wechat on their phones.. none of that foreign muck, they say. My sister insists on facebook. When I try to explain that FB is banned, she says the ban does not apply to me because I am British (read white). And my Chinese friends and collegues dont understand why I dont go 'home'.

Used to be extra charges depending on where u got your sim / where you were when u placed the call / where call recipient is.  But best I understand from my China friends is that has pretty much been done away with.  I know it only counts for Mainland,,, and wouldn't surprise me one bit if you pay extra to call Lhasa / Urumuqi,,, maybe even Inner Mongo,,,,   but who the heck has tried and really knows?  In general I hear if you are calling/receiving in 'developed' mainland, your cool.

12 years or so ago, when I lived in the UK, I used a Chinese sim to txt. Think it was 10p per text. The brit sim card was 25p to txt to China.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
