I have had 2 attempts at the computerised driving test,77/100 both times... I have learnt the road signs but I can not answer the other questions relating to law etc.,so it seems that I will never be able to pass the test as the only book I have is in Chinese... any advice ?!?
Yes, it's simple to remember and translates as: FOOT TO FLOOR HAND ON HORN PROCEED FORWARD ATTEMPTING TO AVOID ANY OBJECT IN FRONT OF YOU.

FAIL.
They never attempt to avoid. It's just by sheer luck that they don't hit more stuff.
I don't know if it has been updated but you could try "China Drive" if you have an iOS (Apple) device.
I got 72 on my first test, then 96 on my second go. I didn't use the app for the first try.
It gives you all the questions that are in the real test and the multiple choice answer order is the same e.g. A = A, B = B etc.
I managed to do the test in less than 15 minutes as well. Well worth the 6rmb!
When I looked, the theory book is only in Chinese. The rules are pretty much the same as they are everywhere, just forget what you actually see on the streets. As hiddenjelly says, do some sample tests and then prepare yourself for some crappy English translations when you actually go and do the test.

there you go. i haven't tried it myself but i heard it worked. also the iphone app works really well.
Just passed the test from one try this week! . Got my car yesterday but will get the license on Monday LOL!
The one on the link posted looks too short. I bought mine from a travel agency here, it is 900 questions / 200 pages. Message me if you want...

Hi Im Max . I wanna get a driving licence , need some help . i really have no idea how to get it and dont know if the test is in english or chinese ..help meeeeeeeeeeeee...!!!!
I have to be honest with you, I don't know if there is a translated version of the book. Fortunately, when I got my Chinese driver's license, I (along with a friend) was able to convince the authorities to allow me to have a translator when taking my written test. Naturally, my friend knew the test very well and literally told me the answers! We had an official overlooking us, but that official could not speak English. Was there a little acting involved on my part to appear as though I was pondering each answer? Yes! Was this cheating? Yes! But I got a 97/100 score!

i passed the test in Chengu in 2009. The guys who used the book were failing. Get the data file from the traffic office and practice on your PC. That is how they test you , on a computer
