Hi all,
I have a question concerning extending Z visa for a non-native speaker.
I've been working in China for 2 years now on a Z visa, in Taiyuan, Shanxi province. I wanted to change the employer within the same city. I have all the documents in order and can provide a release letter after my current employment ends. However, I was told that due to a change in the visa policy regarding non-natives, no other employer than my current school can extend the visa for me. If I go to a different city it'll be no problem, but not here.
Does anyone know how this law actually works? If I do all the paperwork and apply for visa extension myself in HK for example, will I be able to obtain it? Or, if I left China, applied for a completely new Z visa in my home country with an employer in Taiyuan would it be ok? I want to stay in this city at least for another year.
I try to gather as much information as I can, all answers appreciated.

You cannot extend a 'Z' visa. Presumably, what you mean is get a new Residence Permit in the same city. That has nothing to do with your current employers. Your new employers should receive all of your documents and apply for a new FEC/WP. After that, they should help you obtain the new RP from the local PSB. I cannot determine any difference in the process for native or non native speakers. I think you have been fed a bit of BS.
I too, read about 'visa policy change' somewhere.
When I submit Resignation letter to my previous employer in Dalian at the end of March 2013, School asked me at which School in Dalian I will work in the future.
Few days later, I read about change in regulations somewhere, but considering I wasn't planning to stay in Liaoning, I forgot about it.
There is no difference in Residence permit extension (processing) between Native or Non - native teachers. However, there was a change in Chinese regulation about switching Schools in the same city or even Province.
