Q: Finance and accounting jobs in China?

Usually, are there finance and accounting jobs available for foreigners? The ones who can't speak chinese? How much is a general accountant or a financial accounting expert paid?

"Okay, now let's recruit an accountant, what kind of profile should we be looking for ?

- Well, I'd go for someone who doesn't speak the language, therefore who doesn't know the local regulations and tax laws, and who's gonna require some extra paperwork to recruit. Oh, yeah, and if he has high salary expectations, all the better !

- Very nice ! Let's do this"

Don't listen to KimOnach, it's not very likely but it's also not quite that cut and dry.

Depends what specifically you're looking for. If you're looking for a higher-end accounting position (like one requiring a CPA) you'd only have an easy time of it if you had years of experience at a firm like Deloitte, E&Y or PWC. In that case you might be able to swing something but unless you've had years of big-4 experience don't count on anything. Skilled professionals in big cities here make about the same as in the west. If you're a VP of Finance at a big company here you're making $200K+ USD same as your American counterpart. Salaries at the high-end are good in China it's just the low end that is extremely low.

If you're looking to break in at the low-end, like without a CPA fresh grad etc., I actually know an american guy who got an accounting job at an outsourcing company of all places (doing outsourced basic accounting for a 3rd party) and used that experience to move back home to an accounting job. Now he didn't make a whole lot of money, but it WAS experience that is a lot more useful back home than ESL for example.

Hey you know? Consider it. People might laugh at like a 6K RMB monthly salary working full time office work, but in 3 years when you move back home for a $50,000 USD accounting position? I think you'll be happy you put in the time.

Who the fuck does these creepy anonymous posts?

I've decided that i'm Firmly a supporter of the CFTU and The Leader, but at least i'm open about that.

It's just really sketchy to ask a completely non-loaded question like "hey is it possible to get an accounting job here?" anonymously

Honestly, I don't give a damn anymore. Silly questions make for good entertainment. There are some nice punchlines around here.

Make sure you apply at a foreign own accounting firm.  In China Accountants a equivalent to bookkeepers in North America.  Accountants in North America do the job of government finance. The legal system here is not the same as in North America or Europe. But then if you are interested in working in the field where most of the money disappears it is a good job.

Its not as hard as you think, you just need to do some leg work. Try to find companies owned by people from your home country or close.  Generally people done want chinese crunching their numbers. Too much skimming.  Its rare to meet people that work in accounting here for large multi nationals, but ive met more than a few that do accounting for mid- size foreign firms and they seem to pay quite well.  but probably not as high as your thinking.
