don't ever put 'salary expectations' on any site. any recruitment bots will immediately disqualify you from being consider - unless you are willing to be paid peanuts and say so.

icnif77:

There's no such an option at account settings about 'salary expectations', at least I don't have it.

I guess, this thread's Q is ... LOL.

Negotiation is an art above all, where did you learn this critical spirit? I have no problem with your opinion @Blondine, I would just like to light the little bulb that lodges in your head. For the others, they only summarize their know-how in mediocrity and play, among other things, the hot shit masquerade

Blondie_:

ha ha,
it is clear you have never been to China,
Unless you are shit hot in your job, Chinese employers won't ever 'negotiate' over salary, as their aim is to pay as little as they possibly can.

even if you consider yourself as having the 'art of negotiation' (whatever that is) it is a futile use of time to think you could get a salary that is higher than is on offer in China, especially from smaller Chinese employers, especially now when the potential employee pool in China is so large.

Are you shit hot in your job that you can.
"You are not in Kansas now" when it comes to salary negotiation and you can not apply your expectations to China.
but if you are happy in your delusions, what can i say?
remember, never let ego trump reality

On the contrary @Blondies, I have to say, I've negotiated with Chinese employers over my pay. I didn't really want to negotiate, but ... in 2013, I finished the contract in Xinjiang with pay at 8k per month and half pay for each of the 3-months of recess on 14 classes (45') per week, no office hours, with all standard perks included, what was my best contract at the time.

As I was looking for the new employment after that, I've always stated at the interview:

"My current salary is ... and I won't accept new contract with lower pay than that!"

Then, I sent a copy of the contract in use to the new potential employer.

I did accept future contracts with few extra classes required, but not for the lower pay than Xinjiang contract was.

I exited China in June of 2017, what gave me roughly 4-years of negotiations, he he

The only 'hot' thing comes to my mind was 'I have never violated the contract!'.

Blondie_:

@Icniff,

i would not think as a newbie you would have approached a Chinese employer this way.
You had what we call 'form' - you had worked in China and understood the mindset you were dealing with -  you also had evidence of having worked in China to support your negotiating position.

a far cry from some newbie coming in and making unsupported claims saying "i can negotiate to what i want to get paid"
i will maintain that by including a salary expectation in your 'profile' will have your application eliminated by algorithms, which will mean you you won't even  be considered in the first place should your salary 'expectations' exceed the maximum salary on offer.

But of course you can't tell this to newbies indecision

Yes, indeed. Sorry, I've missed the newbie part ...

My first job in China was in Huachuan, Heilongjiang with F visa, during the winter time, mind you. -32*C was the lowest temp...

No old timer would accept that ... and for 4.5k per month, on the top of all freeze.

"Never, again!" thought was running through my mind all the time there ...

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
