Does anyone know how to make a collect call from Shenzhen to Canada?
Also, how to reach the international operator in China?
I am trying to make a collect call to the RBC Bank in Canada at their collect call number.
collect calls are in the too hard basket in China.
Yes, use Skype if that is easy for you, however Skype is owned by Micro$oft and I do not want to use that.
What I have is a Voip softphone setup on a mobile without a sim card and switched to aeroplane mode with wireless manually switched on.
I found Linphone works well. http://www.linphone.org/
Linphone can also be used on a desktop.
Then I pay about 5 dollars a month to a voip service which includes a DID
You might want to try this Canadian based Voip and DID provider; https://voip.ms/
This gets you a LOCAL number (in Canada in your case) so that people can call you, and you can call them.
Need wireless and good internet connection, done!

I am a China Telecom customer and ended up using their 11808 IDD number at .79 RMB per minute; luckily it was only a 5 minute wait time and a 7 minute talk time
.....and NO, this is not a suggestion to try that 11808 IDD number just in case anyone thinks that I am a China Telecom scam artist and NO, I do not own shares in China Telecom eitherTry using your Skype account
Englteachted:
Skype won't let you make a collect call, could have changed, because there's no need
canuck888:
sorry for the multiple comments due to eChinacities's system
Question, how do you call Canada normally?
canuck888:
I usually call relatives and friends using Skype or WeChat but RBC accepts collect calls so I wanted to try using a collect call
Put some money into your skype account and you call from there. Like 30rmb
Englteachted:
Stop lying they do accept skype calls you can use Skype to call normal numbers, stop being a cheapskate
canuck888:
lying?............try and use Skype to call RBC and let me know............get a life

You are better off to try from HK:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operator_assistance
Calling no. of operator in HK:
- Hong Kong: 10010 (local), 10013 (international)
To make a Collect Call from China (North) to USA or Canada is that easy:
In China (North) dial 10800.972.0102.
Follow the instructions of the operator.http://www.collect-call.eu/collect-call-faq/how-to-make-a-collect-call-from-china-north-to-usa-or-canada/
Shenzhen collect, ie south china, I am not sure. Easiest way is to walk into Shangri-la Hotel (the earliest 5 star in SZ) near Lu Wu train station, also border crossing to HK, and ask. They have a decent business center on the first floor. The people there should know.
Another method is using IDD phone cards which you can buy from china telecom apparently.
earthizen:
No worries. If you are in north china, test it out and see if it works. Also a good idea for April 1, just make sure the other party doesn't have a heart problem.
Note to mods.. Scam alert?
Post a phone number, maybe premium rate?
Good hearted ppl try to phone it and get charged 200 bucks a minute.
No need to call collect. Just use your mobile to phone direct. China has some of the cheapest phone networks in the world.
canuck888:
Scam alert??????........man, this is a legit number from RBC, which is Canada's largest bank and one of the most respected banks in the world......here is the website link where you can see this number clearly mentioned on the right hand side to clarify your misguided scepticism ........... www.rbcroyalbank.com/contact-us/international.html..........what benefit would I get by having someone calling a RBC phone number
canuck888:
calls to banks can often involve a long waiting time and it is .79 RMB a minute to make an IDD call.........assume a 20 minute wait and maybe a 15 minute call and you are talking about maybe a 30 RMB charge, so why not use a collect call if the bank offers that facility and NO, I am not a cheapskate,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,does that make sense?
canuck888:
access this website and you will see this that it is a legit RBC contact number...........www.rbcroyalbank.com/contact-us/international.html..............hope that this refutes your unfounded scepticism
canuck888:
this maybe just a mere coincidence that this is also a UK number but I am not a scam artist by any stretch of your or anyone's imagination
There you go.
canuck888:
www.rbcroyalbank.com/contact-us/international.html....................there you go also
Use China Mobile sim, next dial 1259300 and your Canadian number and you'll have an hour of two to talk
I use skype to call RBC, Canada. Think the collect # doew not work outside of Canada or USA. Besides, best to call your branch if you want any half decent answers to any questions. The head office phone answerers are useless.
