Q: How many wechat groups are you members of?

I seem to be in loads. If I am busy at work for a day, I have between 50 to a hundred messages to read. If I am sick for a few days I have hundreds.

None, 'cause I don't own chat-able phone. I can't chat with my Nokia.

No groups and dont intend too. Just some subscription accounts besides known contacts..

ScotsAlan:

Subscription accounts? Do you mean news and such like? Can you share them with us?

Try China Wire sub account. It's a bit rubbish but not as bad as most and contains content sometimes relevant to those who hail from Foreignersland.

I can't stand wechat groups. I always sneak out of those. I loved wechat when it came out but now. I try so hard not to add new people because it's so annoying having tons of people contact you every second of the day.

Let's just say I have 50-100 messages to read if I ignore my phone for an hour. I usually don't read them and just steal hongbaos instead.

Only two groups and they keep me busy enough.

I do subscribe to a number of accounts:

Chinawire

ThatsPRD

City weekend Guangzhou

GDToday

Globalnews (this one has some good rants!)

ZSFAC

Most have interesting China news stories but a lot of the stories are repeated across the different accounts.

I am only in work related groups and one other. If it is a chinese language group I change my name to a generic chinese name in a group, wait a few days then quit. No one notices you have left and the group can maintain 'face'.

Most groups are just a waste of time.

I did get some flak from a foreigners "jokes" group after I quit. There was nothing funny and mostly just porn clips. I still can't find that fuck I was supposed to give about the whiny bitches that complained about me quitting.

ScotsAlan:

I was invited to one of my wife's groups to share photos I had taken at a picnic. I will never join another Chinese group again :-) Messages by the thousand. And most about what they just ate :-o

A few, but I tend to turn off notifications so I don't get woken up at ungodly hours of the night by the drunks, or just inconsiderate. I mean, group posts at 1:30am?? Some people actually like to sleep then!

Most (all?) of the groups I'm in tend towards banter..

A: No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa
A:No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa/RP sponsor can have an objections to your part-time job. I did the same at my English teaching in China and elsewhere, butT ... I casually mentioned at my prime job, some kindergarten or another school asked me to work with them part-time. Then, my Q: "Is that permitted?" ...  Answer from RP sponsor was always "Yes, but you can't be late or miss the classes at our school ..." with my reply: "No, our work schedule has a priority, and I'll arrange classes at kindergarten only in my free time." When I cleared that, I was undertaking any extra teaching hours at other schools and private students in my free time.Sometimes, teachers at my prime job asked me if I'm willing to have some extra classes elsewhere.I accepted after the talk with School's principal. I suggest, you test the felling at your Z/RP sponsor and once you see they don't object, you can work at 2nd job. Keeping your 2nd job as a secret from your employer won't work, 'cause you're laowai and Chinese know exactly what you do in your free time. However, despite your employer's agreement for extra work, you are still in violation of Chinese Labour law, and even if your sponsor agrees to your extra work, you can still get in trouble, because it's clearly written (somewhere ... ) that under Z/WP, one can work only at the Z-sponsor and nowhere else. Penalties ... I'd say, there won't be any warnings and you'll be required to exit China in short Exit time.It never happened to me, so I can't really advice how is when manure hits the fan ...  -- icnif77
