You might ... secure the teaching position about which you'll have to discuss with your potential employer, who will sponsor your Working (Z) visa.

You will be required to exit China and change your present visa to a Z visa for what you'll need a sponsor/employer.

Remember, only visa you can work in China is Z visa! Working under any other Chinese entry visa is illegal.

If your potential employer can secure the Working permit with the documents you'll present, all is good ...

Good luck!

Not as I'm aware.

It was always required to exit China, if Z applicant was in China and file Z visa application at one's home country Chinese embassy.

After the first Z visa application, it was possible to secure new Z visa application in Hong Kong. One had to make sure on Invitation letter was stated Z visa can be obtained at HK's Chinese embassy in Wan Chai.

I was in China longer term always with Z/Working permit, and once contract was completed, I already had a new position and several times exited China to Hong Kong and after a month stay in Tsim Sha Tsui, returned to the mainland with new Z visa. I was also looking for the new positions on the mainland straight out of Kowloon, he he.

That was the only exemption to the rule "MUST exit China for the new Z visa!", since HK was/is China, but administratively it wasn't/isn't.

Example: holder of EU passport is required to apply for visa to enter mainland China, but can enter HK for 90-day stay, no different than I would travel in Schengen zone from one country to another ... just an HK-entry passport check/stamp, same as entering USA or UK.

Most likely, all Western passports can enter HK visa free for 3-M stay.

Thanks very much ,this was insightful , will try the Hong Kong route , my country is allowed entry & stay in hong kong 3 months also. I hope the process also works for first time z visa applicants ,not just renewal.

HK never worked for the first time Z visa applicant-s. Employer had to make sure .gov add notice on Invitation letter and in case ,gov doesn't fancy something, it'll dismiss HK-pick-up notice and issue Invitation letter without any notice. Then, one must return home for new Z.

As per my observations, first time Z application had to be done at the Chinese embassy of one's home country. I'd say, it might be required channel between one's home Chinese embassy, i.e. Chinese .gov and your home .gov., as deep dive into one's criminal history and behaviour overall will follow.

There is one thingy about HK to know ...

https://worldpopulationreview.com/countries/hong-kong-population

" ... At the end of 2017, Hong Kong had 7.392 million living there, ranking it 104th in the world for population. For a country with this many people living there, Hong Kong is a surprisingly small country, only cover 427 square miles (1,110 square kilometres) of area, .... Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated countries in the world, and has a population density of 17,311 people per square mile (6,659 people per square kilometre), which ranks between 2nd and 3rd in the world for population density." (it doesn't get its rank because of its status as a Chinese territory. - LOL @ the last sentence).

Have you ever stand in the elevator's queue? ... and not only at the one elevator ... Every single public elevator in the city is the queue elevator ...

HK is a beautiful city for the first 2-weeks stay. After, I just wanted to return to the mainland, ASAP.

A:I ain't sure if this will help, but I used to say ...:"Never stop sending your CVs, not even if you already have an interview invitation!" MS degree is completed online ... That might be the reason 'cause I don't think employer in China can secure legal Working permit by presenting degree completed online. TEFL Course completed online was/is acceptable, but I'm not sure about your MS ... Have a look at the requirements for Z visa in China ...  Good luck! -- icnif77
